Exploring Nature and Culture in Tokyo

This time in Tokyo, we decided to go hiking, so we spontaneously searched for mountains near Tokyo to hike. We ended up at Mount Takao in Hachioji City, a 50-minute train ride from Tokyo, which is known as one of the most popular hiking destinations. Mount Takao, with a history of 1300 years, is said to be full of spiritual energy and is famous for its Tengu legends. On the way to the summit, you'll pass by many energy spots and the Yakuoin Temple. Don't hesitate to touch and call for good luck! The most famous spot is the Good Luck Octopus next to a 450-year-old cedar tree. It's said that touching the octopus's head brings good fortune. Although climbing Mount Takao seems easy, don't forget that the elevation is 599 meters and the descent can be steep. It's recommended to wear comfortable clothing and bring snacks. At the base of the mountain, there are souvenir shops and restaurants offering soba noodles. Besides the eight hiking trails, you can also take a cable car or chair lift up the mountain and then walk slowly to the summit. For transportation, take a train from Shinjuku Station towards Takaosanguchi Station. Get off at Takaosanguchi Station, exit to the right, and walk a few minutes to reach the cable car ticket office at the base of Mount Takao.
