2024 Hanoi Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in October)
Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam. This is a city that mixes old and new. Cultural heritage sites are scattered nearly everywhere you look. St. Joseph's Cathedral is built to look like the Notre-Dame de Paris. The whole place is completely suffused with various flavors of history. The Temple of Literature is a Confucian temple in the Chinese architectural style, and the clouds of incense in the One Pillar Pagoda indicate its importance as a popular place for locals to pray. Other than traces of antiquity, there are also many scenic spots related to Ho Chi Minh such as the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Ho Chi Minh Museum. You can go to Hoan Kiem Lake, where the locals like to stroll and cool off, or you can go to the 36 streets of the Old Quarter to buy unique local souvenirs. Once night falls, go to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre to watch Vietnam's national art form - the water puppet show - come to life.

A Charming Evening Stroll Through Hanoi’s Old Town
#cityscape #100waysoftravel #hanoi
After dinner, we took a leisurely stroll through the vibrant streets of Hanoi’s Old Town. The bustling atmosphere was alive with cyclos and bicycles weaving through the streets, giving the area its distinct charm. We explored many quaint souvenir shops, each offering unique, locally crafted items worth browsing. Our walk led us to a nearby park, where we admired the iconic Welcoming Morning Sunlight Bridge, beautifully illuminated at night. Its glowing reflection on the water added a peaceful ambiance to the lively surroundings, making it a memorable way to experience the soul of Hanoi.
I flew to Vietnam just for this hotel.

Hanoi Train Street
#vietnamtrip
Quite an interesting place in Hanoi because all the cafes face the train tracks, so when the train passes by there will be a unique experience. But be careful, cafe owners often scam by forcing you to sit in their cafe, you don't need to worry, just follow your instincts to get the best spot.
On average, this area offers delicious coffee.
Before ordering, it's a good idea to ask for the menu to find out the exact price.
Before you come here, make sure the train schedule passes through information on the internet/instagram because many have uploaded the train schedule, so you get the most unique experience.
Address : 3 P. Trần Phú, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
Hanoi, a city that you will never forget.
Coming to Hanoi is like walking into a vivid painting. The old and the modern are intertwined here, and tradition and fashion collide here.
Let's talk about the old streets of Hanoi first. It's like a time tunnel, taking you back to the past. The narrow streets are lined with colorful French-style buildings, and the bright colors seem to tell the stories of the past. The small shops on the street are full of goods, some selling traditional handicrafts, some selling special snacks, and some are full of literary and artistic cafes. Walking in the old streets, you can hear the melodious music played by street artists, and see locals sitting leisurely on the side of the road drinking coffee and chatting. The pace of life here is slow, and people's mood can't help but relax.
The Sword Lake in Hanoi is a major highlight. The lake is clear and green, surrounded by lush trees. During the day, the sun shines on the lake, sparkling, and it is beautiful. There are many people walking and exercising by the lake, and some people are quietly reading on the benches by the lake. At night, the lights on the lake light up, and the entire Sword Lake becomes dreamlike. You can rent a small boat and sway gently on the lake, feeling the comfort of the breeze.
The Temple of Literature in Hanoi is also worth a visit. This is the ancient academy of Vietnam, full of strong cultural atmosphere. The architecture of the Temple of Literature is antique, with red walls and green tiles, and carved beams and painted buildings. Inside, Confucius and his disciples are enshrined, which makes people marvel at the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture in Vietnam. In the Temple of Literature, you can enjoy exquisite calligraphy works and ancient cultural relics, and understand the ancient Vietnamese education system and cultural traditions.
Speaking of Hanoi's food, it is really mouth-watering. The first thing to mention is Vietnamese pho. The delicious soup, smooth rice noodles, plus tender beef and various side dishes, you will never forget it after a bite. There are also spring rolls, thin skins wrapped with various vegetables and meat, dipped in special sauce, refreshing taste. Hanoi's coffee is also very distinctive, the strong coffee aroma plus sweet condensed milk, it is memorable. In the streets and alleys of Hanoi, you can find a snack stall or coffee shop anytime, anywhere, and taste these delicious foods.
The people of Hanoi are also very enthusiastic and hospitable. They always smile and are willing to help others. If you encounter difficulties in your journey, they will not hesitate to lend a helping hand. Here, you can feel the warmth and sincerity between people.
There are ancient buildings, beautiful scenery, delicious food and enthusiastic people. If you haven't been to Hanoi yet, hurry up and put it on your travel list! I believe you will have an unforgettable time here.
Hanoi Train Street
My visit to 'Hanoi Train Street' was a unique and thrilling experience. Located in the heart of Hanoi, this street is famous for the trains that regularly pass through, with houses and cafes closely lining both sides of the railway. While waiting for the train, I enjoyed sitting in one of the cafes that served traditional Vietnamese coffee. The atmosphere was vibrant, with locals and tourists gathering to watch the train slowly pass through the middle of the street. The experience was astonishing, and the feeling of the train passing by added a sense of adventure and suspense. It is a place unlike any other in Hanoi, combining local culture with excitement.

#100waysoftravel 🏡 End of Van Cao Street (intersection Nguyen Dinh Thi) - because this section has not been numbered yet, the shop has not updated the address yet
🕰 Opening hours: 7:00 am - 11:00 pm
▪If you are looking for a difference between the current series of white and beige shops, this is it, it is also being discounted by 20%, guys
- The shop has a large and quite prominent facade with dark blue combined with white, it looks very classy and luxurious. Stepping inside, it feels like stepping into a train car, both classic and modern. The 2nd floor is also designed like a train car, the space is bright because it gets a lot of natural light.
- The shop also has a small balcony overlooking the lake, it's really cool to sit in this season 🥲 The shop is also renovating the rooftop nhaaa
▪About drinks, I tried the milk cream coffee (hot) - quite strong for those who get drunk easily on coffee, but I found it quite delicious, just a bit small huhu. The price is also quite high, 55-60k nhaaa. I really like the creativity in the space of the shop so I will definitely come back hihi
This is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in, highly recommended

An extraordinary tour to the first National University of Vietnam

Temple Of Literature Location: 58 P. Quốc Tử Giám, Văn Miếu, Đống Đa, Hà Nội, Vietnam.
It was such an extraordinary experience visiting this historical yet majestic temple. The Temple Of Literature (Vietnamese: Văn Miếu) which is dedicated to Confucius. I had learnt about this historical temple which was founded and first built in 1070 at the time of Emperor Lý Thánh Tông, used to be Vietnam's first national university from 1076 to 1779.
I'm really admires its beautiful ancient architecture and traditional Vietnamese designs. It has various pavilions, shrines, statues and altars, plus an imposing front gate. Moreover, I love the spacious landscaped courtyards which creates serene and peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend getting the audio guide to understand this place in a much better way.

What to do in Hanoi
#travelanywhere
What we did in Hanoi:
✧ Walked around Hoan Kiem Lake in the morning
it was really nice walking around at 7am and seeing everyone slowly start their day in the morning. there were so many elderly people doing tai chi, zumba, fishing and playing badminton around the park and opening their shops, really interesting to see.
Hoan Kiem Lake is really pretty at night as well, we stopped by there again to watch the sunset and take some pix ~
✧ Exploring Old Quarter
There were so many streets selling different things like clothes, gifts, snacks and more and the Old Quarter really comes alive at night. And they do hold a huge night market every Saturday.
✧ Hang Da Market
we visited their underground level which is where they sell secondhand clothes, shoes and accessories. went there to thrift but be prepared to haggle a lil bcuz they really raise the price up so much for tourists and are very insistent on you purchasing something even if youre just lookin around 😭
✧ Choc Dong Tac Market
one huge giant thrift market, they have rows and rows of shops just selling secondhand clothes and for cheap! when i say its just mountains of clothes they really are mountains…some clothes are just lying on the floor in the shops and getting stepped on 😀 you just gotta have the patience and stamina to dig through everything…..def can find some really nice pieces here
✧ HieuSecondhand and Tiem Cassette Nau
not really thrift but a shop selling vintage clothes and they had a second level selling casettes and records (Tiem Casette)! pretty nice place and they had a lot of vintage designer items for an okay price.
✧ Ta Hien Beer Street
VERY crowded place but very happening!!! promoters will be trying to pull you in to their bars/restaurants just make sure you take note of your belongings and also the guys here abit pervy so just be careful 😵💫 lots of bars to try and is also the main street where all the clubs are!
✧ St Joseph’s Cathedral
stopped by at night because they were having a mini christmas event so we came to take some pics! it was really crowded tho but cathedral was pretty, i think it looked nicer at night with all the lights
✧ Vincom Centre
just a standard shopping mall, i think its one of their biggest malls there
✧ Trang Tien Plaza
one of the fancier malls i’ve seen, its so pretty at night and all the big designer brands are there.
✧ Nightclubs
didnt manage to go but heres some of the clubs i heard are good from the locals there and my friends:

The Best Places in Hanoi and Beyond!
🇻🇳 Vietnam is a beautiful country filled with rich history. Here are some of my favorite places to visit in Vietnam!
🌊 Experience the jaw-dropping beauty of Halong Bay! There are various ways you can choose to enjoy this unique geography consisting of limestone islands (that look more like mountains) and gorgeous waters. I chose to experience it via a day cruise and had an amazing time!
🛤️ Hanoi Train Street is a picturesque place with many photo opportunities. You can walk along the tracks throughout your visit, taking in the quaint sights around you. Pop into one of the local cafes that line the street for a cup of tea and a quick snack.
🍊 Tran Quoc Pagoda is the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi, having been built in the sixth century. Around the pagoda, which holds important monk's ashes, citrus trees are grown, giving the pagoda a nice atmosphere when paired with the water it sits on.
📚 The Temple of Literature is a temple dedicated to Confucious in Hanoi, Vietnam. This temple was built in 1070 and served as the Imperial Academy, Vietnam's first university.

Hanoi Train Track Coffee Street
The Coffee Street along the train tracks in Hanoi is a very distinctive street that was established during the French colonial period in 1902.
The total length of the Coffee Street is about three hundred meters, with cafes lined up along the train tracks, interspersed with a few snack shops. Vietnam's most famous egg coffee is something I have no desire to try, as I can't stand the smell of eggs
Trains pass through both in the morning and afternoon, and the schedule can change, so it's best to check the latest timetable before going to avoid missing the train's arrival time.
The buildings on both sides of the Coffee Street blend Eastern and Western cultures, each with its own merits, but all are equally filled with an artistic atmosphere. There are many European and American visitors, sipping coffee while watching the train whizzing by, as if life slips by in negligence, and everything is just a passerby in time.
Trip to Hanoi 🇻🇳
It was a short trip to Hanoi. We visited Hoan Kiem Lake (Hồ Hoàn Kiếm). We started our trip with a stroll around this scenic lake, and visited the Ngoc Son Temple located on an island in the lake.
📍 Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi
We also visited Hanoi Old Quarter. Wandering through the bustling streets, exploring traditional shops and local market, Dong Xuan Market.A large market where you can find everything from food to clothing and souvenirs. We really enjoy our time there, exploring local foods and vibes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📍Dong Xuan, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi
We then visited Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. We got the chance to enjoy a traditional water puppet show, a unique Vietnamese art form.
📍57B Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi
We also visited Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. We visited the final resting place of Vietnam's revolutionary leader, Ho Chi Minh. Nearby, we also see the Presidential Palace and the One Pillar Pagoda.
📍 2 Hung Vuong, Dien Bien, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi
We also explored the Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu Quốc Tử Giám) and Vietnam's first university, dedicated to Confucius, scholars, and sages.

Travel to Hanoi for a leisurely life experience and must-visit a high-quality hotel
🏨 Hanoi Square Hotel
❤Recommended Reason:
Travel to Hanoi to experience the slow life, found this hotel online, it seems pretty good, decided to stay one night to experience it!
🌟Highlights:
The hotel is located on the 36th Street, you can get there by taxi, and the staff will come up to help with the luggage as soon as you arrive at the door. While waiting at the front desk, they also served welcome drinks and candied fruit!
🛏Room Facilities:
The hotel is decorated in a delicate French style, the room type I booked is not big, but it's really exquisite inside, the toiletries are Acqua di Parma, which was a pleasant surprise!
After negotiating with the hotel, they even upgraded my room, so I stayed here for the next few days.
👍Most Recommended:
Every day you can feel very comfortable service, every day when you come back, everyone greets you with a smile!
The hotel will help to order takeout, and on a rainy midnight when the takeout didn't arrive, they would call and say they could help to buy food, which is really considerate and warm!
🍽Dining Recommendation:
The hotel's restaurant is on the 10th floor, the breakfast is quite rich, and I would have a bowl of Vietnamese Pho (the chicken Pho is very tasty) every day
👍Most Recommended:
If I go to Hanoi again, I will choose this place, the room is very photogenic, with a cinematic feel!
Hanoi Four-Day Citywalk can be enjoyed like this
After playing in Hanoi for four days, taking leisurely strolls and breaks was very relaxing. The attractions are quite concentrated, so even a commando could check off the main sites in one day, but I personally recommend three days for a more comfortable experience.
🏠About the attractions:
1. Top recommendation is Train Street. You need someone to guide you in, probably for safety reasons, and the fee is not more expensive than outside. To see the train, you have to wait for the weekend, and it's more beautiful when the lights are on at dusk.
2. Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Security checks are required to enter, and many tour groups come here to check in.
3. The Imperial Citadel. The entrance fee is 30,000, and it's not very big inside, but many young ladies are taking photos. The yellow city walls are very photogenic.
4. Hanoi Opera House. It's beautiful for taking photos when the lighting is good.
5. St. Joseph's Cathedral. Suitable for photo ops and check-ins.
6. The Fine Arts Museum and the History Museum are worth a visit if you have time.
7. The famous coffee building + Hoan Kiem Lake. I sat in the rooftop café for a while, and the view was nice.
🚴About transportation:
1. Walking is highly recommended, as the attractions are not far from each other. Just choose where you want to go and use Google Maps to find the location and route. There are many shops and cafés along the road where you can stop by anytime.
2. Riding a motorbike. Grab is very convenient, and motorbikes are cheaper.
3. The double-decker red bus. It's very convenient to cover all the attractions in one go.
4. Pedicab. It's worth trying, but there's too much exhaust on the roads, so the experience is average.
5. To go from the airport to the city center, take bus 86, which costs 45,000 and takes about an hour, much more expensive by taxi.
🍽️About food and drink:
1. Vietnamese pho is very tasty. There are various ingredients like beef, pork, seafood, etc., and the price does not exceed 50,000, with free refills of noodles.
2. Egg coffee. Very fragrant, sweet, and creamy, and when mixed with coffee, it has a caramelized flavor, although the portion is a bit small, it's definitely worth a try. I went to Giang Coffee, which is said to be the original creator, and everyone had a cup in hand.
3. Coffee street. As long as you're in the city, there's a coffee shop every ten steps. You can try any with a Google Maps rating of 4.5, which is very friendly for coffee lovers. I bought Arabica coffee beans to take home, and they also have Moka pots and other items with great value for money.
4. There are many outdoor gear shops around the coffee building, such as The North Face, Patagonia, Salomon, and Arc'teryx. Remember to haggle for clothes, but it's harder to bargain for shoes. All are made in Vietnam, and you can judge their authenticity for yourself.
5. Street food. Juice costs around 25,000 per cup, and there are various noodles and cakes, all at reasonable prices.
🎢Other supplements:
1. There are many motorcycles in Hanoi city, which I find a bit noisy, so after walking for a while, I like to find a relatively quiet café to sit in.
2. You can withdraw money from ATMs, and UnionPay cards are charged a fee. Many shops accept credit cards, which is convenient.
3. When getting change while shopping, make sure to count carefully, as you might be given less by a few hundred thousand haha.
4. It's cheaper to get a SIM card in the city than at the airport.
Overall, Hanoi is not expensive, and the architecture and streets are picturesque, suitable for a leisurely three to four-day stroll. If you have extra time, you can spend a day or two in Halong Bay, making it about a week in total.
Hanoi, Vietnam Free Walking Tour Guide, a must-see for beginners!!

1️⃣Hanoi Cathedral
⛪️Also known as St. Joseph's Cathedral, it was built during the French colonial period, designed in Gothic style, somewhat resembling Notre-Dame de Paris, open to the public for free visits during the day. 4️⃣Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre
A traditional Vietnamese cultural performance, the content of the performance is usually about national heroes and folk tales. The performance is entirely in Vietnamese, but you can get a Chinese program in the lobby before entering to roughly understand the content of the performance. 5️⃣Ha Long Bay
It takes about 3.5 hours to get there from Hanoi. Ha Long Bay consists of thousands of large and small islands, where you can take an 🚢antique boat and travel among the karst islands. On the second day, you can visit the Surprise Cave to admire the peculiar stalactites inside.

Hanoi Saint Joseph's Cathedral Vietnam❤️⛪
#vietnamtrip
The reason is that the important landmark in the center of Hanoi, Hanoi Saint Joseph's Cathedral, was built in 1886 and was inspired by the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. It is one of the oldest churches in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. When traveling to Hanoi, it is necessary to come here and take photos. There are many streets nearby, and you can enjoy the church architecture and street scenery while drinking in Kakuang County. Is it really beautiful?

When the wind of the train brushes across your face
🇻🇳When the wind of the train brushes across your face🚂💖🚉If I had ever encountered you on a train railway, I believe when the wind from the passing train brushes my cheeks, I must be holding hands with you on this exciting and surprising train street, where dual tracks no longer separate us. Hanoi Train Street, Vietnam.
✨In the old quarter of Vietnam, there is a special street that people call the Train Street. Most tourists come here just for the novelty of taking photos, but the locals have been living with this railway for decades.
✨The train passes by here twice a day, once at 3:30 pm and once at 7:30 pm. The speed of Vietnam's trains is as slow as our oldest green trains, about 40 kilometers per hour.
✨This track, built during the French colonial period, has nearly a hundred years of history. The people of Hanoi have become accustomed to the roar of these old-fashioned trains, living in harmony with them, and it seems that their lives have not changed because of it.
✨The tracks are only one or two meters away from the houses, with various fruit shops, barber shops, and restaurants on both sides. The residents here regard this track as their public area, where people cook and children play.
🚂Most residents of Vietnam are very open and even casual about the use of public space, and there are no urban management officers to disturb them here, which is probably why the people of Train Street can face their life situation so calmly.
🚂Everything here seems extremely old, old trains, old tracks, old houses, yellowed signs, and blurred street signs, but the smiles of the people here always seem more cordial and fresh than the merchants near the nearby Sword Lake.

💥Little tips:
1. It is recommended to wear brightly colored clothes for better photos.
2. You can order local specialties like egg coffee and spring rolls at the coffee shops.
3. It is said that trains pass by at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm, so interested friends can choose to visit around these times.
4. There are many local Vietnamese specialties nearby, and Grab is very convenient. Just wave to stop one, but it's best to show the address to the driver and agree on the price before getting on.
Hanoi Old Quarter
#vietnamtrip
Hanoi Old Quarter is the heart of the city's nightlife. During the day, it's a bustling marketplace with shops selling souvenirs, clothing, and food. On weekends, the streets are closed to traffic and even more vendors come out to sell their wares.
One could spend a week just wandering through the streets here and barely make a dent in seeing and experiencing all of the amazing things, people, and experiences! Plan to spend plenty of time wandering and exploring.
Sipping coffee by the railway as the train whizzes by
Coming to Hanoi, Vietnam, there's a must-visit spot, which is the famous Train Street.
When the train passes, it roars right by your ears, just a hand's breadth away. If you haven't experienced it in Thailand or Japan, you can come here to feel it.
📌How to find a spot
☕️There are coffee shops on both sides of the railway, and if you want to watch the train, you'll need to order a coffee. Usually, the shop owners will pull people into their coffee shop at the railway crossing or call in advance to pick up customers from the crossing.
☕️Remember to find a shop with a good view of the train. Agree to follow the shop owner only after they show you the spot.
☕️The coffee is not expensive, generally costing only about ten to twenty yuan per cup.
📸Photography Tips
🌟There are various train schedules online, which can be overwhelming. But as long as you come on the weekend, there are many train services.
🌟We were very lucky this time. We arrived on a Saturday evening, around five, and within half an hour, two trains passed by in different directions, which was an unexpected surprise. Plus, coming in the evening allows you to capture the deep blue sky.
🌟If the coffee shop has a second floor, you can go up there to take pictures for a better view. We took photos of the first train on the ground floor by the railway, and the second one from the second floor.
🌟We entered from a crossing in the middle of the railway, which was recommended by the hotel staff, and the angle was good.
🌟Before the train arrives, you can freely take photos on the railway, but be sure to step aside and pay attention to safety when the train is coming.
📍Train Street Hanoi
There are entrances on both sides of Train Street, and there's also a crossing in the middle. The positioning during navigation is very important as it will determine the angle of the railway in your shots.
🚗Transportation:
It's not far from the cathedral and Hoan Kiem Lake, about a ten-minute walk.
