Guanyin Temple

Hohhot Guanyin Temple is the only well-preserved Han Chinese Buddhist temple from the Qing Dynasty in Hohhot. It is located in Quanyuan Alley, Yuquan District, and was built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1796-1820), with a history of over 200 years. The establishment of Guanyin Temple originated from a dream of the founding monk, Juzu. Before becoming a monk, Master Juzu suffered from an eye disease and lived in hardship. One day, while fetching water by a well, he fell asleep due to fatigue and dreamt that Guanyin Bodhisattva told him that if he decided to become a monk, practice virtue, and build a temple there, his eye disease would be cured. Upon waking, Master Juzu returned home to bid farewell to his family, visited the old monk at the Xichafang Guandi Temple to be ordained, and received the Dharma name 'Juzu'. After years of traveling and fundraising, he finally built Guanyin Temple beside the well. Master Juzu became the first abbot of Guanyin Temple, and his eye disease was indeed cured. Guanyin Temple thus gained great fame, attracting a large number of devotees and worshippers.
