A Look Back at the 2019 Setouchi Triennale & Travel Tips

I just bought early bird tickets for 2025 and reminisced about 2019, the last trip before the pandemic. In November, there weren't many tourists, but I met a group of charming architects from Shanghai while island hopping. We explored several spots together. My friends and I leisurely strolled between islands, enjoying the seaside without rushing or obsessing over check-ins, fully immersing ourselves in the fusion of art and nature. Each island in the Seto Inland Sea has its own charm, from olive-producing Shodoshima, cat-filled Cat Island, ghost-themed Oni Island, to Naoshima and Teshima with their famous museums, and many other islands we couldn't visit due to time constraints. The locals were very friendly, and we occasionally saw elderly people gardening. ✨ Some scattered tips ✨ ① Flights: Shanghai to Takamatsu via Spring Airlines ② Accommodation: Consider staying a night on Teshima or Naoshima, or like us, stay in Takamatsu ③ Tickets: You can buy tickets (passport) for the art festival at local convenience stores or download the 'Setouchi' app to purchase them now; early bird tickets are 3800 yen ④ Island hopping: Plan to visit 1-2 islands per day; consider staying overnight on larger islands for comfort ⑤ Other tips ⚡️ Takamatsu is famous for udon, eat to your heart's content! ⚡️ Check ferry schedules in advance to avoid missing them! ⚡️ Check bus schedules on the islands as they are infrequent and easy to miss! ⚡️ We stayed for 5 days, but 7 days would be more comfortable! #Setouchi #SetouchiTriennale #JapanTravel #SetoInlandSeaIslandHopping #Naoshima #Shodoshima #ArtandNature
