The image of Erlang God at this site in Shanxi is a bit different! Have you seen it before?

This set of Erlang God and his Seven Sages of Meishan colored sculptures were photographed at the Erlang Temple in Zhangbi Ancient Fortress, Jiexiu, Shanxi. He holds a trident halberd, with the roaring celestial hound by his side, looking majestic, detesting evil as if it were an enemy, and the image is unforgettable! Although the colored sculptures are newly made, they are also one of the rare fine works I have seen! But upon closer inspection, it seems that this Erlang God is different from the traditional image we have in mind. This Erlang God, like ordinary people, has only two eyes instead of three! In Chinese folk belief, Erlang God is a deity with a quite extensive influence. In fact, Erlang God originated from the Guankou God in the Shu area before the Song Dynasty. Later, there were Li Erlang (Li Bing's second son), Zhao Erlang (Zhao Yu), and the well-known Yang Erlang (Yang Jian) evolution. Apart from the evolution of the characters, what's more significant is the evolution of the image of Erlang God, especially after the Ming and Qing dynasties, the appearance of the three-eyed Erlang God image has become deeply rooted in people's hearts. So much so that today when talking about Erlang God, the first thing that comes to mind is the three-eyed one, but all these are part of the historical evolution of the image of Erlang God!
