Xishuangbanna Station 7 - Mengle Great Buddhist Monastery

Mengle Great Buddhist Monastery is the center of Theravada Buddhism in the world. The 8-meter-tall Buddha statue is built on a mountain. Take the electric car to the top of the mountain. Around the temple, there are lion gods representing power, elephant gods representing good fortune, peacock gods representing good luck, and bird gods representing love. The temple is not open to the public. In front of the temple is a glass walkway, which costs CNY 10. You can see the back of the Buddha statue and overlook Jinghong City. On the way down the mountain, there is a sacred bodhi tree from Sri Lanka. It has a long history. You can walk around it (remember to walk an odd number of times). Continue down the mountain to the front of the Buddha statue. There are 3,000 steps and 80 arhats on both sides. Continue down the mountain. On the right is the Bathing Buddha Square, where there is a water-splashing activity. You can see peacocks flying at a fixed point on the right. More than 200 peacocks fly out for about 2-3 minutes.
