Turkey: 3 hours in Erzurum

Erzurum was the second stop of the Doğu Ekspres which goes from Ankara to Kars. We only had 3 hours to look around and it wasn’t enough at all. Erzurum is a big city with population over 700 thousand people. There are lots of places to see and lots of historical monuments. It’s a very clean and beautiful place. Here are some places that we have visited: 1. Çifte Minareli Medrese- One of the most beautiful works that the Seljuks brought to Erzurum. The Double Minaret Madrasa Architecturally, it was built with great craftsmanship.The decorations, especially on the crown gate of the madrasa, show the best examples of the aesthetic understanding of the Seljuk stone decoration. 2.Three Vaults - three tombs with cupolas were built to show the greatness and dignity of the deceased. Therefore, these structures were generally built for great statesmen and clergy. 3.Erzurum Castle and Clock Tower - the history of Erzurum Castle dates back to the Urartians, who dominated the region about 2500 years ago.. The inner castle, which still exists today, was built by the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius in 415. The restoration has been done very nicely, both inside and with the landscaping. It’s a beautiful place to visit! 4.Yakutiye Madrasa - Yakutiye Madrasa was the largest of the closed courtyard madrasahs in Anatolia.There is also a cupola inside the madrasah.Indeed, like many works above, stone has been brought to life here.The embroidery and patterns are incredibly beautiful. 5.
