Leiqiong Volcano

The Leiqiong Haikou Volcanic Cluster Geopark is located in Shishan Town, Xiuying District, Haikou City, Hainan Province. It is a park that primarily features maar volcanic geomorphology, along with coastal geomorphology, structural geological geomorphology, and various other geological relics. It boasts a good natural ecology and a rich cultural landscape. The park is situated at the southern tip of China and is part of the Leiqiong UNESCO Global Geopark. The other part of the geopark is located on the Leizhou Peninsula in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. The entire geopark, consisting of the Zhanjiang Park, Haikou Park, and the Qiongzhou Strait, has been awarded the title of 'UNESCO Global Geopark' by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The park's region has experienced multiple periods of volcanic eruptions, creating a unique geographical and geological environment. This has led to the formation of a vast basalt plateau, a wealth of volcanic geomorphology, as well as geological relic landscapes of volcanic rock marine erosion and marine sedimentation. It has also given rise to the local unique volcanic culture. In the afternoon, the weather is unpredictable, but fortunately, the temperature is quite pleasant, making a stroll around very comfortable. The entire volcanic crater park area is not very large, with an upper and a lower path. The upper path offers a panoramic view of Haikou City and reaches the highest point of Haikou City. The lower path allows entry into the volcanic crater to see the special terrain and vegetation. It takes just over an hour to walk both paths, and it is not very physically demanding.
