Seopjikoji (Seopji Cape)

Seopjikoji, also known as Seopji Koji, is located at one end of the eastern coast of Jeju Island. 'Seopji' is the ancient name of this area, and 'Koji' is a Jeju Island dialect, meaning a terrain that protrudes outward. On the coastal cliffs where Seopjikoji is located, there is a wide grassland without a single tree in sight, and on the coast stands a rock called 'Sungsan Ilchulbong'. At one end of Seopjikoji, there is a lighthouse, and on the way to the lighthouse, there are windbreak stone walls. Inside the stone walls are fields of rapeseed, and in April each year, you will see the most dazzling yellow. Not only is the scenery beautiful, but there is also a romantic and poignant legend. The lone rock that rises abruptly from the sea is called 'Sungsan Ilchulbong', and it is said that Seopjikoji was once a place where fairies descended to play in the water and bathe. The Dragon King's young prince fell in love with a fairy at first sight and asked the Dragon King for permission to marry her. The Dragon King agreed to their marriage after 100 days, but on the 100th day, the sea was raging with huge waves and the wind was fierce, and the fairy could not descend. The Dragon King said that the prince's sincerity was not enough, and therefore his wish was not fulfilled. Heartbroken, the young prince stood at Seopjikoji for a long time and turned into the eternal 'Sungsan Ilchulbong'.
