#cherryblossom2024 At the foot of the sacred mountain Mikasayama (Kasugayama) in the second year of Jingo-Keiun (768) during the Nara period, the main shrines of Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto, Futsunushi-no-Mikoto, Amenokoyane-no-Mikoto, and Himegami were constructed by imperial decree of Emperor Shotoku and developed as the main shrine (Omiya). Currently, more than 2,200 festivals are held annually to pray for peace and prosperity for the nation and its people. Among these, the Kasuga Festival on March 13th, which has been held for more than 1,200 years, is still attended by an imperial envoy representing the emperor from the imperial court, who recites a ritual text praying for the safety of the nation and its people. Furthermore, the imperial court's "Shunsai" festivals, which are related to the origin of the terms "early", "mid", and "late" months, and "seasonal festivals" such as Joshi, Tango, and Tanabata, were also transferred to the Heian period and are still held to this day.
