Zhouzhuang First Water Town

Zhouzhuang is known as the number one water town in the south of the Yangtze River. The town is crisscrossed with waterways, and its architecture is primarily composed of southern residential houses. It includes nearly a hundred ancient mansions, with Ming and Qing dynasty buildings constructed along the river. The Double Bridges, as depicted by the painter Chen Yifei, capture the gentleness of the 'small bridges and flowing waters' of the residential areas. When the lights are on at night, Zhouzhuang presents a different kind of artistic conception. The ancient town is surrounded by water on all sides, and above the water lanes, 14 ancient stone bridges from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties are well preserved. Ancient bridges, water lanes, and old houses truly represent the 'small bridges and flowing waters' of residential areas. The area of Zhouzhuang ancient town is not large, with both length and width approximately ranging from one to two kilometers, allowing visitors to walk and explore the entire ancient town. Taking a boat trip is a recommended experience. The aunties rowing the boats often sing Kunqu opera tunes, which are very characteristic of the water town.
