Tenglong Cave Scenic Area

Tenglong Cave is a national 5A-level scenic spot, located in Lichuan City, a border city in southwestern Hubei, at the junction of the Daba Mountains and Wulingyuan, and at the source of the Qingjiang River. Tenglong Cave is located in the suburbs of Lichuan City, upstream of the Qingjiang River, 6.8 kilometers from the city. It is the largest known karst cave in China and ranks seventh among the longest known caves in the world, being one of the world's top-grade caves. It consists of Water Cave, Dry Cave, Catfish Cave, Cool Breeze Cave, Dujiazhai, three Dragon Gates, Huaxian Pit, and other scenic spots. The entire cave system of Tenglong Cave has five levels, with more than 300 branch caves of various sizes, making it a provincial-level scenic spot in Hubei Province. Tenglong Cave Scenic Area is a national geological park. The total area of the scenic spot is 69 square kilometers, integrating mountains, water, caves, and forests, and is famous at home and abroad for its grandeur, danger, uniqueness, tranquility, and beauty. In 1988, after 32 days of on-site investigation and demonstration by 25 cave experts from China and abroad, it was confirmed that Tenglong Cave is the largest karst cave in China and one of the world's top-grade caves. In 1989, the Hubei Provincial People's Government approved it as a provincial-level scenic spot, and in 1999, it was named a provincial patriotic education base. In 2005, the authoritative national publication "China National Geography" rated it as "the most beautiful place in China" and "one of the six most beautiful tourist caves in China - the stunning Tenglong Cave." Due to the grandeur of Tenglong Cave, the Navy's 691 submarine was named "Lichuan Submarine" by the Central Military Commission. Tenglong Cave, with its unique natural landscape and pleasant climate, is an ideal place for tourism, convalescence, adventure, and geological investigation.
