The Chinese Folk House Art Museum is located in Jingsheng Village, Lingshi County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, and is part of the famous Wang Family Courtyard. The Wang Family Courtyard is the culmination of Qing Dynasty residential architecture, built by the descendants of the Taiyuan Wang family, one of the four major families in Lingshi County, during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty. The building is large in scale, with "five lanes", "five forts", and "five ancestral halls". Among them, the courtyard layout of the five ancient forts is likened to the shapes of the "dragon", "phoenix", "turtle", "unicorn", and "tiger" five auspicious beasts, with a total area of over 250,000 square meters. The Wang Family Courtyard complex incorporates exquisite wood carvings, brick carvings, and stone carvings in one courtyard. The themes are rich and the techniques are sophisticated. A large number of symbolic, metaphorical, and homophonic artistic forms recognized by secular concepts are used, and the postures are varied and distinctive. It is known as the "First House of Chinese Folk Houses". In the glorious and brilliant history of the Chinese nation, wood carving is one of the oldest and most representative traditional folk art forms in China. As an outstanding traditional architectural cultural heritage and folk art treasure in China, the Wang Family Courtyard has had a positive impact at home and abroad since it opened in 1997. It is widely praised as the "First House of Chinese Folk Houses", "Chinese Folk Forbidden City" and "Shanxi's Forbidden City". In addition, as a typical representative of Jin merchants' courtyards, the Wang Family Courtyard embodies the development of architectural technology and architectural art characteristics of Jin merchants' culture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and has become a well-known brand in Shanxi and even the whole country.
