Zhangye Danxia Tourist Scenic Area is a bright pearl on the Silk Road tourist belt, with a distribution area of 50 square kilometers and an average altitude of 1820 meters. It is the most typical Danxia landform developed in the arid and semi-arid areas of northern China. It is the only composite area of Danxia landform and colorful hills in China, known for its colorful geomorphology, interlaced bedding, magnificent momentum, and spectacular scenes. The scenic area is 40 kilometers east of Zhangye city, 25 kilometers north of Linze county, and 45 kilometers from Sunan county. The scenic area is now a 4A tourist attraction and was approved as a 'National Geopark' by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2011. It is one of the 'seven most beautiful Danxia in China'; one of the 'six most beautiful and strange landforms in China'; one of the 'ten most magical geographical wonders in the world'; one of the '22 most memorable sceneries in the world'; known as 'China's Rainbow Mountain'; one of the '25 dream travel destinations in the world', it has great geological research value and tourist viewing value.
