The Lanna Style Stupa in luang prabang

Lanna style stupa When you have visited Wat Mahathat know as local Wat That Noi, The important Buddhist temple in luang prabang then you will be Surprising with a large blackish stupa with Lanna style which sets on a square base at the Beside of the Main SIM. It was built in the middle of 16th century, during the reign of Setthathirath, King of the Lan Xang Kingdom. The niches on the upper part of the stupa contain gilded standing Buddha images in the calling for rain mudra. The stupa is topped by a slender spire and a multi tiered golden parasol. Around it are several more recent and smaller stupas. A small stupa adorned with colorful mosaics contain the ashes of Prince Phetsarath, leader of the anti French Lao Issara movement. Two other stupas contain the ashes of Prince Souvanna Phouma and of Prince Souphanouvong. You could go there by foot from Old town, and expect out more about the historical of those temples and stupa which is so interesting. Address- Ban Hua Xiang, Chao Fa Ngum Rd, Luang Prabang.
