Valley of the Queens - a bonus in Luxor

The Valley of the Queen is a desolate area located on the southern edge of the Theban Hills, famous for its beautifully decorated tombs of nobles from ancient Egypt. In the Queen's Valley, tombs were built on the hill from the 19th Dynasty onwards. These tombs are for princes, queens and some royal children of rulers during the period known as "Ramesside". In ancient times, the Valley of the Queens - the second largest royal cemetery after the famous Valley of the Kings - was known as Ta-Set-Neferu, meaning "the hidden place of beauty". It is located about 2.4 km west of the temple of Ramses III (1187-1156 BC) at Madinat Habu. There are about 75 tombs in the valley.
