To improve outdoor leisure spaces for the public, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has transformed the idle land near Avenida Marginal do Lam Mau into a temporary leisure area taking up a total area of about 6,220 m2, divided into an integrated fitness leisure zone and a children’s playground. The integrated fitness leisure zone includes a free sports ground equipped with a standard basketball court and an area for children to practise basketball shooting, as well as multiple fitness equipment of different strength levels and in different combinations for public use. Meanwhile, uniquely designed tables, chairs and awnings that blend with nature have been installed to optimise the pedestrian environment and the green landscape of the constructed area, creating an elegant pedestrian environment with sun and rain protection where the public can enjoy the comfortable leisure spaces. Furthermore, the children’s playground next to the zone includes play facilities with six different features, namely high element play set, sandpit play zone, inclusive slide zone, artificial grassy knolls, swing zone and roller skating rink. It is the first leisure area in Macao with a sandpit play zone. Challenge zones with different features, including 3-D climbing structures, balance beams, dinosaur fossils, etc. are available in the sandpit, posing a big challenge to the users’ coordination of the body and limbs and bravery training. The leisure area is built to become a creative and inspiring inclusive playground.
