Museum of Fine Arts

#manilatrip Museum of Fine Arts is housed in the Old Legislative Building. The building was designed by Ralph Harrington Doane, Antonio Maรฑalac Toledo and Juan M. Arellano and built between 1918-1926. Initially it supposed to be National Library but eventually it became the Legislative Building. In February 1945 the Japanese forces used the building as their stronghold. The buildingโ€™s north and south wings were heavily damaged during American bombardment. The building was rebuilt in 1949. In 2010 the building was declared as a National Historical Landmark. Today National Museum of Fine Arts is a home to 29 galleries and hallway exhibitions comprising of 19th century Filipino artists. Some of the art pieces belong to other institutions, organizations, and individuals (many paintings were lended by Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP). On the 4 Floor is interesting temporary exhibition called โ€œThe Long Journeyโ€ showcasing Magellan voyage around the world. The entrance is free of charge. Open every day (except Monday) from 9 am. Some of the art is great, some less so, but it is still a must visit place in Manila.
