Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located within the territory of Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. It is a directly affiliated institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a comprehensive research institution that integrates scientific research, species conservation, and science education, as well as a scenic spot. The Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1959 by the Chinese botanist Mr. Cai Xitao. The garden covers an area of about 1,125 hectares, with more than 13,000 species of living plants collected. It has 38 specialized botanical areas and preserves an area of about 250 square kilometers of primary tropical rainforest. It is the largest botanical garden in China with the richest collection of species and the most specialized garden areas. It is also the botanical garden with the highest number of plant species conserved outdoors and displayed to the public in the world. As of March 2024, the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been awarded titles such as 'National Environmental Protection Science Popularization Base,' 'National Science Popularization Education Base,' 'National Youth Science and Technology Education Base,' 'National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction,' 'National Research Travel Education Demonstration Base,' 'Top Ten Science and Technology Tourism Bases in China,' 'National Civilized Unit,' 'National Advanced Collective in Afforestation,' and 'Yunnan Province Quality Science Popularization Base.'
