Legend has it that Naples was founded in 680 BC and the city was named Partenope, which was later incorporated into the city of Neapolis established by the Greeks of Cumae. 150 years later, Naples fell into the hands of the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Naples became a duchy until it was conquered by the Normans in 1139, and then the Normans were replaced by the Germanic Swabians. In the Battle of Benevento in 1266, Charles I of Anjou defeated the Swabians. In 1442, Naples fell into the hands of the Spanish Aragon. In 1734, the Spanish Bourbon dynasty established Naples as the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, until the rule of the Bourbon dynasty in Naples was ended by the King of Italy and Garibaldi in 1869, and Naples was incorporated into Italy. The ancient city of Naples has been listed as a World Cultural Heritage site, and the three east-west streets in the city still maintain the original layout of ancient Neapolis.
