From the moment I stepped into the hotel, Bawa's architectural language completely overturned my perception of tropical architecture. The hotel entrance is an east-west open gray space, with a four-sided concrete column supporting a wooden sloped roof. The large eaves are naturally designed to block the intense sunlight and frequent rainfall in tropical areas. This is not only a place for travelers to rest, but also serves as the hotel's reception hall, which led to my first semi-outdoor check-in experience. The courtyard surrounded by buildings clearly reflects Bawa's emphasis on landscape design. The rocks, plants, and trees in the courtyard are carefully arranged to present an inherent order. The huge plants are not only an important part of the site, but even become the core of the design. They combine with the straight roads to form the traffic flow of the courtyard. The skylight provides lighting for the enclosed courtyard and open rooms, while also solving the privacy and ventilation problems of large flat-floor residences, and bringing courtyard views to closed rooms, integrating the hotel with nature.
