Whitney Museum of American Art

The Whitney Museum of American Art, known informally as "The Whitney", is an art museum in the Meatpacking District and West Village neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded in 1930 by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875–1942), a wealthy and prominent American socialite and art patron after whom it is named. The Whitney focuses on 20th- and 21st-century American art. Its permanent collection, spanning the late-19th century to the present, comprises more than 25,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, films, videos, and artifacts of new media by more than 3,500 artists. It places particular emphasis on exhibiting the work of living artists as well as maintaining an extensive permanent collection of important pieces from the first half of the last century. The museum's Annual and Biennial exhibitions have long been a venue for younger and lesser-known artists whose work is showcased there. #travelguide#historicculture#museumquest

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum is an amazing museum to visit. It has beautiful abstract architecture that sets the tone of the experience from the moment you step in. It is home for some of the most valuable pieces of art in the world, from some of the most well-known artists in human history. You can walk in and see artwork from greats such as Vincent van Gogh, Picasso, Monet and many others. It is surreal to see paintings that you have seen many times in books and other media up close and personal, getting to witness history firsthand. Even if you are not an avid fan of fine art, there is audio tours that give you extra insight into the history, context and meaning of each artwork so that you can appreciate their individual significance. #historicculture #museumquest #artexhibit #summervacation#hotelstay#urbanexplorer
