Ningbo Dongqian Lake: A world of its own.

Dongqian Lake is located in the southeast of Ningbo City, surrounded by mountains. It was called "Qian Lake" in ancient times because it received water from Qian Dike. It was also called "Wanjin Lake" because of its abundant resources. It was called "West Lake" in the Tang Dynasty because the county seat was in Maoshan and the lake was to the west of the county seat. It was called "East Lake" in the Song Dynasty because the county seat was at the mouth of the Sanjiang River and the lake was to the east of the county seat. Dongqian Lake is a sea trace lake left over from the geological period. After generations of lake management, it is now 8.5 kilometers long from south to north and 4.5 kilometers wide from east to west. The lake is 45 kilometers in circumference and covers an area of 20 square kilometers. It is now the largest freshwater lake in Zhejiang.
