Wakasa Hiko Shrine, with a history of over 1300 years, is the primary shrine of Wakasa Province. It is the only national shrine in the Wakasa region, and both the upper and lower shrines have their main halls, shrine gates, and Zuishin gates designated as cultural properties of Fukui Prefecture. Hiko Shrine was established in 714 AD in Shiraishi, Shimonogoro Village, Onyū District, but it is said to have been relocated to its current location in 715 AD.
