Kuto Besak Fort

Kuto Besak is a palace building which in the XVIII century became the center of the Palembang Sultanate. The idea of ​​establishing Kuto Besak Fort was initiated by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I who ruled in 1724-1758 and the construction was completed by his successor, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin who ruled in 1776-1803. Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin is a figure of the Sultanate of Palembang Darussalam who is realistic and practical in international trade, as well as a religious person who made Palembang the center of religious literature in the archipelago. Marking his role as sultan, he moved from Keraton Kuto Lamo to Kuto Besak. The Dutch called Kuto Besak the nieuwe keraton, aka the new palace.
