2023: a year to remember! What’s netx? 🔜✈️
2023 was a beautiful year! I had the opportunity to visit many new places.
In January I went to Jordan. While I was there, I had the opportunity to visit Petra, one of the seven wonders of the modern world. January being a non-high season period, there were few people and it was beautiful. Petra is definitely a magical place to see at least once in a lifetime.
In April instead I had the opportunity to go to Beijing. Here too I saw another wonder of the modern world, The Great Wall of China. But the thing that left me most shocked was the Terracotta army which is located in the city of Xi'An.
I hope to have other opportunities to travel in 2024 as I had in 2023. The destinations I would like to visit this year are New Zealand and French Polynesia…so Oceania is my next goal 🔜✈️

The Monastery: A Great Nabatean Temple
The Monastery, also known as Ad Deir, is one of the largest and most impressive monuments in Petra, Jordan. It is a monumental building carved out of the rock in the Nabatean Classical style. The Monastery is located high in the hills northwest of the Petra city center and was probably built as a temple in the early second century AD.
The building is believed to have been designed as a tomb, just like most of the other monuments around Petra. The huge facade, the inner chamber, and the other structures next to it or in the wider area around the Deir probably originally served a complex religious purpose and were possibly repurposed as a church in the Byzantine period.
The Monastery is a long way from anything, which is why it has fewer visitors and is a great winter getaway. To get to the Monastery, you need to walk up 800 steps on a path from the valley. Along the route, there is the Wadi Kharrubeh, the Lion's tomb, and many other tombs and caves.

Al-Siq: The Majestic Gateway to Petra
Al-Siq, the main entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in southern Jordan, makes the best entrance into the area. This narrow gorge, in some points no more than 3 meters wide, winds its way approximately 1.2 kilometers and ends at Petra's most elaborate ruin, “The Treasury”.
The Siq is a natural geological fault split apart by tectonic forces and later worn smooth by water. The walls that enclose the Siq stand between 91–182 metres in height. As you walk through the Siq, you'll notice the remains of the original city gate to Petra.
The Siq was used as the grand caravan entrance into Petra. Along both walls of the fissure are a number of votive niches containing baetyli, which suggest that the Siq was sacred to the Nabatean people. In 1998, a group of statues were uncovered when digging was conducted to lower the road.

Petra Museum: A Journey Through Time
Located just a three-minute walk from the main gate to Petra, the modern Petra Museum is a treasure of history and culture. The museum offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to explore the region of Petra over time.
The museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, dating back to different ages. These artifacts, discovered in and around Petra by archaeological excavation teams, provide a glimpse into the rich history and civilization of the Nabateans.
The museum's exhibition consists of five halls, each showcasing different aspects of Petra's history and the Nabatean way of life. From pottery figurines of a man playing a double-flute to a sandstone stelae known as the "Goddess of Hayyan" excavated from the Temple of the Winged Lion in Petra, the museum offers a great insight into the past.
In addition to the artifacts, the museum also features interactive digital elements and original size reconstruction models, all based on recent archaeological research, which bring the history of Petra to life for visitors.

The Rose City of Petra ✨
Petra has also been referred to as the “Rose City” because of the colour of the stones used in its buildings. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985
I checked off my second Jordan bucket list here, which is to see The Treasury (Al-Khazneh). To get here, you first walk the 1.2km long Siq, a narrow gorge that serves as the entrance to Petra.
I recommend spending two days here because the place is massive and there is so much to see in Petra.
Top tip: take pictures on your way back from the trails around 5 pm when people start leaving.
Best months to visit April and September 😎

Petra-Jordan
Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City." Perhaps its most famous structure is 45m-high Al Khazneh, a temple with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury.

Petra, Jordan
Petra is referred to as the “Rose-Red City” and, at dawn especially, the pink cut-rock remains are a remarkable sight. Daylong visits begin at the Siq, a half-mile gorge lined with horse carriages heading to the vast complex. Wonder turns to astonishment at the first view of Al-Khazneh, a royal tomb carved by the Nabataeans 2,000 years ago. Although most structures have fallen, the remaining facades and amphitheater testify to the sophistication of early Arab settlers.

DEEP WITHIN JORDAN’S desolate desert canyons and rugged mountains lies an ancient treasure, the stone city of Petra. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the new seven wonders of the world, Petra is a giant metropolis of tombs, monuments, and other elaborate religious structures directly carved into sandstone cliffs. Believed to have been settled as early as 9000 B.C., Petra developed into the thriving capital of the Nabataean kingdom. This little-understood Middle Eastern culture ruled much of modern-day Jordan from the third century B.C. until the first century A.D., when it yielded to the rising power of Rome.

Out of all the places I have been to in my life, Petra in Jordan was one of the most breathtaking locations I have had the chance to witness. From the breathtaking mood at night to the sheer scale of the rock carvings, everything was a pure breath of fresh air, and a time travel to the past. As we followed the Al-Khubtha trail to the top, we came to a little tent set up by some locals, who served us tea to enjoy the views with. Certainly a place I am dying to go back to, as this experience profoundly marked my heart with emotions and feelings 🇯🇴🐪 Pro tip, for the views from above, there are several locations, but I would recommend following the Al-Khubtha trail. it is a bit of a walk and hike, but you will definitely get to enjoy the views to yourself, away from the rest of the tourists. (Don’t listen to the local “fake” guides who would tell you that trail is closed so that they can bring you to another trail to earn commissions 😉)

Petra, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. I’ll never forget this memorable day. I woke up really early to watch the sunrise from the Treasury and running towards the Monastery just in time to watch the sun coming out behind this “huge-rock”. I’ve walked more than 21km for about 15 hours that day, it felt like I was in a movie! one of my favorite moments was definitely seeing Petra by night! the Treasury in the dark brought a whole new experience, with over a thousand of candles lined the path from the Entrance of Petra through the Sun leading up to this magical view!

I don't think there is a single person who can't recognise this place. The mythical city of Petra is probably the most famous place all over the Middle East and not to mention how important is for Jordan. If you want to visit it just be prepare for 20km walking by feet to the end. If you are more lazy like me - 3km walk also works. #petra #jordan #happynewyear

Petra is a must see attraction if visiting Jordan. I suggest that you take water with you and wear comfortable shoes while exploring Petra. There is a lot of walking up and down hill to reach The Treasury and a lot of steps to The Monastery. Go slow and take your time because there is a lot to see! I stayed at the Mövenpick which is right across the street from the welcome center at Petra and very conveniently located.

The City of Roses is synonymous with it. It is said that it rose overnight, drowned overnight, was included in the World Cultural Heritage in 1985, and in 2007 it was named one of the Seven Wonders of the New World. It is rumored to have treasures buried in the temples of the ancient city, attracting many explorers like Dr. Jones and Ding Ding to find treasures. Even Captain Jack is mimicking the clothes of local Bedouins.
It is listed as one of the most expensive attractions in the world. The ticket is 500rbm a day. I heard that a bowl of rice is up to 100 RMB. I once doubted whether the rice was put in the fairy.
This is Petra, listed by National Geographic as the best travel destination in the world in 2018. This is the most expensive attraction. What magic is attracting more and more travelers.

I finally got a card in the old city of Petra, which is popular in the air! God knows what has happened in order to take this photo! I wore a wedding dress and climbed up the hill with my four feet. When I saw the ancient city at my feet, everything was worth it!
The ancient city of Petra (9 BC - 40 AD) is a historic city in southern Jordan. It is one of the mysterious ancient cities in the desert of southern Jordan and one of Jordan's most prestigious historic sites. On July 8, 2007, he was selected as the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Petra is Jordan's most famous national attraction and a World Heritage Site, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Purchase the "Jordan Pass" in advance of the entry, which includes tickets for more than 40 attractions in Jordan, as well as the "skip-free" privilege and landing visa-free fees.
The area of Petra is rich in attractions, you can play in one day, or you can watch it carefully for three days. You can walk into the ancient city, or you can take a carriage ride. Remember to bargain, because the Jordanian currency is worth more than the US dollar. Watch out if the driver is looking for money to participate in the US dollar.
1.2 km long, the Sik Gorge is the main road leading to the Kazini Shrine. The Kazini Shrine is Petra's most attractive place for visitors, and the Greek-style faade is amazing and amazing. If it is not difficult to reach the Kazini Shrine, there are more than 800 steps in the Dale Abbey in Houshan that need to be climbed and worth visiting.

Friends who have seen the film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" can imagine that Dr. Indiana Jones and a group of explorers rode horses through the Sik Shan Gorge, marveling at the wonders of nature, and then gradually, gradually, A red red ancient city...
Hongmei Ancient City-Petra, in fact, you really want to use words to describe the kind of shock you saw at first sight, especially if you have been walking through the meandering snake road. Its like a shuttle in the time tunnel from now to history. You will see it in the meandering canyon, and then as you slowly move forward, it will show more and more until you walk out of the canyon. It completely fills your eyeballs, tightly fills, and leaves for a long time.
When Petra was built, it is still inconclusive. According to the semi-Egypt and half-Greek style of the mausoleum, Petra was built in the 6th century BC, probably during the Ptolemy period, from the 3rd century BC to the 2nd century BC. With the decline of the Ptolemy dynasty and the ancient kingdom of Seychelles, the Nabat kingdom began to prosper. In 106 AD, the kingdom of Nabat was captured by the Roman Empire and became a province of the Roman Empire. In the 3rd century, it may be due to the rise of the Sassanian Persian Empire and the prosperity of the maritime trade in the Red Sea. Petra, as a land transportation fortress, gradually declined. When it was conquered by the Arab army in the 7th century, it was an abandoned empty city.
Climb to the top of the ancient city of Petra and overlook the city outside. For more than two thousand years, it is the center of Middle Eastern civilization. After more than two thousand years, it is a land of dust and sand. This is just the historical memory left by nature.
