Rabat | The Fallen Gem of North Africa

Many travelers consider Rabat a fallen gem of North Africa, deep and beautiful, yet often overlooked. If you ask ten people what the capital of Morocco is, probably eight of them would say Casablanca. Rabat is much less known compared to Casablanca, yet it is the actual capital of Morocco. Rabat is located on the Atlantic coast and enjoys a spring-like climate all year round. To many tourists, Rabat seems more like a transit point, even though it has many historical sites, it is not as attractive as Marrakech and the ancient city of Fez. The whole city is low-key and friendly, with vehicles on the road always yielding to pedestrians, and the shopkeepers in the old town market are kind and simple. This is our last stop on our trip to Morocco. We walked along the seaside and eventually discovered that there are still many ancient ruins reflecting Morocco's long and splendid ancient civilization, including mausoleums, mosques, palaces, and the Kasbah of the Udayas. Another great viewing spot is a group of bungalows by the sea next to the fortress, originally a Portuguese military prison, later turned into a restaurant after the French occupation. It is said that the Kasbah of the Udayas used to be a yellow town, but after Chefchaouen became popular, the residents here followed suit and painted the whole town blue~ Rabat·Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Region
