The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a wonderful place to visit in Richmond. First, admission is FREE. You can find free street parking in the surrounding areas, too. There’s also a lovely restaurant inside that is rather affordable as well as a cafe downstairs. The museum hosts an outdoor sculpture garden, ancient relics, paintings, and so much more. My favorite are the Egyptian sarcophagus and Indian Garden Pavilion.

Maymont Park, Gem of Richmond

I grew up outside of Richmond, and Maymont Park was a very much frequented landmark - it’s where our high school held picnics, where we brought out-of-state (and out-of-country) visitors. I left Richmond after high school 16yrs ago but still make a trip to Maymont now and then when visiting my parents. So grateful the city has maintained the park so well for the public to enjoy (it’s Free!). #Maymont #Rva #richmond #virginia

One of the best art museums in the USA

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is one of the best art museums in the States. It has a wide collection including European, East and South Asian, Ancient Greek and Egyptian, and finally American art works. In addition, there is always a new exhibition of known artists and collections. The museum has a pretty modern building with two fine resturants and nicely designed garden. Also, the garden is one of the meeting hub in the city. A state capital steeped in history

Richmond is Virginia's state capital and it is one that was quite important throughout history. Today it's a midsized city that isn't too busy but still retains a certain amount of allure from its past. Richmond is known for its various architectural styles. At the center is the Virginia State Capitol which is a majestic building that oozes grandeur and appeal. Like many other historic buildings, it was designed by Thomas Jefferson and it sits proudly on top of a slightly elevated hill. It has reminders of Old World Europe, but is still distinctively American in design. During the Civil War, it was even the capitol of the Confederates. Definitely one of the more interesting State Capitols. Moving along and following the Civil War history, you'll find the White House of the Confederacy, which is where the President of the Confederacy lived. Conversely, the Egyptian Building is an interesting seemingly out of place building that is in Egyptian Style. Finally, take a walk along Tobacco Row, which houses former Lucky Strike Factory. Its warehouse feel is preserved among these renovated condos. Nearby, you'll find the Main Street Station, which is the historic train station. Overall, you'll find plenty of architectural gems in Richmond. Hollywood Cemetery, RVA

I never thought I would discover this cemetery in my hometown of Richmond as a peaceful hiking spot, but this historical site is a gem of Richmond. It is a peaceful and scenic place to take a long stroll, and there are some famous historical figures among the entombed, including US Founding Father and President James Monroe. Virginia did produce many of the early presidents of America 🇺🇸 #Hollywood cemetery #richmond #virginia #RVA
