One of the three major Christian pilgrimage sites

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, located in the capital of the autonomous region of Galicia in Spain, is the burial site of Saint James, one of Jesus' most esteemed disciples. The cathedral has undergone multiple reconstructions and now features a blend of Romanesque and Baroque architectural styles, with a golden altar and silver sarcophagus inside. The cathedral is said to entomb the faithful disciple of Jesus, Saint James, and is one of the world's three major Christian pilgrimage sites, alongside Jerusalem and the Vatican. Since the Middle Ages, numerous believers from the Iberian Peninsula and the European continent have flocked along the Way of Saint James to make their pilgrimage here, making it the final destination of the route and attracting many pilgrims and tourists. In 1985, the old town of Santiago de Compostela was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
