Nanxiang Ancient Town is located in Nanxiang Town, Jiading District, Shanghai. There are famous attractions such as Nanxiang Old Street, Brick Tower, Tanyuan, etc. Nanxiang was originally named Chaxi. When Emperor Wu of Liang founded the country, Nanxiang was just a desolate village. In 505 AD (the fourth year of Liang Tianjian), the White Crane Nanxiang Temple was built. After the Ming Dynasty, the incense was prosperous, and the town was named Nanxiang because of the temple. Nanxiang Old Street has pink walls and black tiles, and the houses are unevenly distributed. There are small and large shops, bridges, flowing water, gardens, long corridors, and painting shops each with their own charm. Nanxiang Temple Brick Tower, also known as Nanxiang Twin Towers, was built from the Five Dynasties to the early Northern Song Dynasty. The Nanxiang Twin Towers are 11 meters high, with eight sides and seven floors. Each floor is equipped with waist eaves, bucket arches, flat seats, railings, straight lattice windows and pot doors. All components are made of brick, finely processed, and the appearance imitates the wooden structure tower of the south of the Yangtze River. It is vivid and has a typical Tang and Song architectural style. Liuyun Zen Temple is rebuilt in the Tang style, with a large scale and rigorous layout, divided into three courtyards. There are Shanmen, Guanyin Hall, Daxiong Treasure Hall and Sutra Collection Building, and the left and right symmetrically arranged Jialan Hall, Dashizhi Hall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Wenshu Hall, Puxian Hall, Shangke Hall, Monk Dormitory, etc. Tanyuan is the private garden of Li Liufang, a literary scholar and artist of the Ming Dynasty. It was built in the 33rd year of Ming Wanli (1605). The garden retains historical attractions such as Baozun Hall, Cizui Pavilion, Shanyu Building and Furong Shu. Tanyuan was the place where literati and ink guests chanted poetry and drank in the past, and it is a literati garden in our country's history. The ancient town is known for its many bridges, the most famous of which is the Nanxiang Twin Towers Bridge. This bridge was built in the Ming Dynasty. It is a stone arch bridge. The stone railings on both sides of the bridge are exquisitely carved and simple in shape. In addition to the Twin Towers Bridge, there are also White Crane Bridge, Zhao Family Bridge, Wu Family Bridge, Jili Bridge, Taiping Bridge, Baoji Bridge, etc. When visiting Nanxiang, you must taste the century-old Xiao Long Bao.
