The name "Qiu Xia" (Autumn Mist) of Qiu Xia Pu comes from the line "The setting sun and the lone bird fly together, autumn water and the long sky are the same color" in the Preface to the Prince Teng's Pavilion by Wang Bo. Qiu Xia Pu, together with Zuibai Pond in Songjiang, Yu Garden in Shanghai, Guyi Garden, and Qu Shui Garden in Qingpu, are known as the five classical gardens in Shanghai. Qiu Xia Pu is the oldest and best-preserved one among them. The main part of the garden was built in 1502 (the 15th year of the Hongzhi era), and it has a history of over 500 years. Qiu Xia Pu is centered around a clear pond and is divided into four parts: Peach Blossom Pond, Ningxia Pavilion, Qingjing Hall, and Yimiao.
