Hengshan Garden Hotel.

The Hengshan Garden Hotel is located at the intersection of Hengshan Road and Wanping Road. It was originally the Picardie Apartments, built in 1934, and was converted into the Hengshan Guesthouse in 1955. It was later renamed the Hengshan Hotel and the Hengshan Guesthouse, becoming one of Shanghai's earliest six foreign-related hotels. At the end of 2020, the Hengshan Guesthouse launched its fifth renovation, striving to restore the original appearance of the historic building to the greatest extent possible. It merged with its "next-door neighbor"—the equally five-star Jiu Shi Hengshan Hotel—and was officially renamed the Hengshan Garden Hotel. The Picardie Apartments, built in 1934, were invested in and constructed by the International Savings Society. The original apartment's main building had a total of 15 floors, with a mountain-shaped, stepped, falling shape starting from the two wings. For half a century after its completion, it was the tallest building in the western part of Shanghai. The architectural lines symbolizing the silhouette of a 20th-century skyscraper have now also become a unique symbol of the Hengshan Garden Hotel. It is worth mentioning that on the background walls on both sides of the renovated lobby, one side is an old photo from when the Picardie Apartments were completed in 1934, and the other side is the new look of the Hengshan Garden Hotel after its renovation. Looking at each other, this excellent historic building seems to have crossed 89 years of time and is once again having a conversation here.
