The exhibition "The Origin of Mono-ha: Focusing on Phase of Nothingness - Earth" is held at the AAEF Art Center. The art center is located in Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town in Shanghai. The exhibition will show the audience the origin and development of "Mono-ha," a creative avant-garde art school of post-war East Asian art. Exhibition Name: The Origin of Mono-ha: Focusing on Phase of Nothingness - Earth Exhibition Dates: November 8, 2024 - June 8, 2025 Opening Day: November 8, 2024 Artists: Nobuo Sekine, Susumu Koshimizu Curators: Zhu Qi, Miwa Kato Academic Advisor: Akira Tatehata This exhibition focuses on the birth of "Mono-ha" - Nobuo Sekine's "Phase of Nothingness - Earth" (1968), tracing the artistic trajectories of the two artists Nobuo Sekine (1942-2019) and Susumu Koshimizu (b.1944) who participated in the creation. The exhibition will tell the story of how "Phase of Nothingness - Earth" was born and how they continued to explore after that. By displaying the works and historical documents of these two representative artists of "Mono-ha," the exhibition will explore the essence of "Mono-ha" in depth. In addition to the visual presentation, an international forum with experts in related fields will be held on the opening day of the exhibition to further explore Mono-ha and its impact on contemporary art. We hope that this exhibition will deepen the understanding and discussion of Mono-ha in the Chinese art world. The AAEF Art Center is adjacent to the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao, known as the "Venice of Shanghai." The space is a large factory building with a garden and a rooftop with a total area of 2,800 square meters, which will be open to the public on November 11, 2023. The AAEF Art Center is an art experimental field, focusing on the investigation and research of contemporary Asian art and the sorting out of cultural contexts, and extending to the water town to plan and hold diverse activities such as music festivals and film festivals, with the vision of becoming a place of origin for the exchange and gathering of contemporary Asian art. In addition, the Art Center Foundation plans to create a scholarship program for students of art schools worldwide to promote the sustainable dissemination and preservation of outstanding works.
