Shangqiu Ancient City

Shangqiu Ancient City is located in Suiyang District, Shangqiu City, Henan Province. It is an ancient city with a history of more than 4,000 years and is also known as Guidefu City. It consists of three parts: brick city, city lake, and city moat, showing a unique "city in water, Bagua city, city stack city" three-in-one urban pattern. The existing Guidefu City was built in the 16th year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1503 AD) and was completed in the 6th year of Zhengde (1511 AD). It has a history of more than 500 years. Under this ancient city, there are also ancient city sites of many dynasties such as the Yuan Dynasty, Northern Song Dynasty, Sui and Tang Dynasties, Qin and Han Dynasties, and Zhou Dynasty, forming a rich historical and cultural level. Shangqiu Ancient City is the only large-scale ancient city site in the world that integrates Bagua City, City in Water, and City Stack City. It has extremely high historical and cultural value. Shangqiu Ancient City is not only a national AAAA tourist attraction, but also a national key cultural relics protection unit and a national water conservancy scenic spot. In 1986, Shangqiu Ancient City was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the second batch of national historical and cultural cities; in 2016, Shangqiu Ancient City was awarded the "China Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Base"; in 2011, the Grand Canal was approved by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, and Shangqiu Ancient City entered the World Cultural Heritage.
