Strolling through Gankeng Ancient Town in the rain

Taking advantage of the free time, I came to Gankeng Ancient Town. Gankeng Ancient Town is completely different from the ancient water towns in Southern Suzhou; it is a Hakka ancient village with a long history. Gankeng Ancient Town was once a settlement for Hakka people, with numerous ancient buildings and interconnected alleys. There is the Nanxiang Building, which has endured more than 120 years of vicissitudes; the Number One Scholar Mansion built during the Yongzheng era; the Phoenix Valley with Huizhou-style architectural complex; and there are also watchtowers, fortresses, and stilted buildings blending into the landscape, forming a unique carrier of Hakka culture alongside the century-old Hakka row houses. Gankeng Ancient Town is an important window to understand the culture of Shenzhen's indigenous people.
