2024 Shinjuku Ward Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in September)
Today's Weather
Mostly cloudy 19-25℃
Find the best neon lights in Shinjuku
Shinjuku at night time is a must if you want to see the bright lights and neon signs Tokyo is famous for. The Kabukicho district is where you’ll find the red gate entrance and the best neon signs.
If you want a free observation deck, you can visit Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and see views over the city at 202m high. The observation deck is all inside and enclosed. Look for Main Building No. 1 to find the Observatory Elevator on the first floor, just look for the line of tourists and you’ll find it.
There’s a giant Godzilla at Hotel Gracery that lights up, roars and steam billows out on the hour. You can also visit the hotels 8th floor terrace to see Godzilla at head level.
The most famous alleyway in Shinjuku is Omoide Yokocho. It’s filled with a collection of small bars, yakitori restaurants and street food stalls. It has an amazing atmosphere to walk down with lanterns lining the whole alley. It does get very busy and crowded with people walking up and down but well worth the visit even if you don't eat or drink here. #Japan #shinjuku
Godzilla and the bustling street of Shinjuku
Are you a Godzilla fan?
Shinjuku is a place in Tokyo that attracts many visitors from overseas. It is always packed, and you can see huge branded stores here. Shinjuku is home to the first official Godzilla shop in the world. The nearby Don Quixote store sells a range of Godzilla-themed novelty goods as well.
This Godzilla, towering over the Too Cinema in Shinjuku, is probably the most famous in Tokyo. On closer inspection, it's actually just a head and claw, but it still cuts a pretty intimidating figure.
Every now and then you can hear his classic roar booming throughout the area. His eyes light up, and a neon blue stream of "atomic breath" projects into the night sky.

Kabukichou Street in Shinjuku.
Kabukichou has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, but things are gearing up again. Kabukichou Tower is a shiny new entertainment complex that opened in 2023 to a lot of fanfare. It has a food hall, game center, escape room, live music venue, and hotels all in one building.
Where is Kabukichou?
Kabukichou is located within Shinjuku Ward in central Tokyo. The neighborhood itself is just a 10-minute walk north-east of Shinjuku Station.
What is Kabukichou like?
Kabukichou is one of those places where the vibe changes significantly depending on the time and day of the week. As a nightlife district, it’s most lively in the evenings and busiest on Friday and Saturday nights. During the day, it’s a lot quieter, however some entertainment businesses like Toho Cinema, Kabukichou Tower, and Tokyo Mystery Circus are also open during the day.
Poking out from behind the Toho Cinema complex of Kabukichou the 12m tall head very occasionally roars, and is actually a really handy meeting place. A tribute to the much loved creation of Toho themselves, Godzilla is an official tourism ambassador and special resident of Shinjuku

🇯🇵 Tokyo subway pass
Travelling to Japan can be really affordable and you can use Zip Air to achieve low cost air tickets. As for travelling within Tokyo, you can use virtual suica or days pass such as Tokyo Subway Metro Pass. A quick overview, there are several railway transportation companies serving Tokyo. Basically, you can classify as Metro and JR trains. These different tracks will meet at some stations which is a train interchange too. Depending on your route, taking either tracks will save time and transfer too. You can always use a navigation transportation app to get a suggested route. For Tokyo Subway Metro Pass, they are sold in 24/48/72 hours and it goes by the time you enter the station. You will have to self collect these passes at any major subway station by using the special ticket machine.

Shinjuku, a foodie heaven in Tokyo 🍱🍣🍜
With Tokyo being such an enormous city it can often be overwhelming deciding what areas to visit, especially if you’re doing a smaller trip.
If you’re a big food lover you have to find time for Shinjuku to get an incredible taste of Japanese food. It’s home to some amazing food streets and has plenty of shopping too. For me the highlight was NishiShinjuku food market, lots of tiny alleyways lined with restaurants.
We tried some ramen, Yakitori and some matcha ice cream
to finish - all of it was incredible. The restaurants can be very small, some with only 2/3 tables but it’s worth it to wait for one you like. It can get really busy and almost impossible to get a table but there are so many food stalls to grab something and walk around.
Most places are cash only, so make sure to grab some cash on your way!
Head to Shinjuku station and head towards the Tokyo city hall for the most food options.

Bustling Shinjuku, the city that never sleeps
#tokyotrip
Imagine meeting your friend to meet at Shinjuku Station, and guess what, there are hundreds of exits at Shinjuku station. I got lost almost everytime when I need to visit there. Talking about the busiest centre in Tokyo, it is none other than Shinjuku. This is the place where most offices are located, and due to its proximity to most office employees, there are many shops, eateries, pubs and night bars around and you can never go hungry there. Even if you decides to try each and every shops there, it will take you years to complete them. Starting from 6pm, you will see crowd flowing towards alleys and main streets meeting co workers, friends or even dating. The street will never be empty before 1am. The iconic Godzilla figure located at Hotel Gracery is the main place for tourists to take pictures or selfie.
Adventures Japan vacation in April
Perfect weather to visit Japan in March - May. Not too hot nor to cold. Public transport are superb. Set your google map and explore different tourist location. Most of my trip visiting free entry. As foodies i love to hunt for the local cuisine. Be mindful to keep your own trash. Rubbish bin are not easily to spot unless you reach your hotel to clear your trash. Get your mrt card nearby the subway station and explore the Tokyo city. #tokyocity #gundam #
Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho
Omoide Yokocho
Omoide Yokocho, a maze of narrow alleys close to the West Exit of Shinjuku Station, stands in stark contrast to all the bright and clean modern environs of the station. Tiny restaurants and open barbecue food stalls spill their smoke, noise and greasy steam over alleys hardly wide enough to stretch out your arms.
The buildings are old and mostly run down, the food stalls very traditional, the visiting crowd multilingual. At dinner time, when it gets most crowded here, tired Tokyo office workers relax with a beer and a few sticks of yakitori chicken at the food stalls, sitting next to excited tourists chattering loudly in Chinese, Cantonese, English or Korean.
Omoide Yokocho roughly translates as Memory Lane - or, in other words, a place that you know from way back and feel somewhat nostalgic about.
The area started out as a huge black market close to Shinjuku Station in the days right after World War II. In those days, it was certainly dangerous to visit the area - but hardly anyone had a choice. Here was the food, here were the supplies.
Cat Cafe Mocha Lounge (Shinjuku) 猫カフェモカラウンジ 新宿店
Good place to take a break from shopping around in Shinjuku. We wanted to play with the cats, but they were not very active with us, may be they were low energy after lunch. All cats are young and pretty, hope the cafe treats them well continually and let them receive more loves from the visitors for long.
Except relaxing with cats, you can also find a quiet corner to enjoy some drinks and Japanese comic provided by the cafe library.
Shinjuku Chuo park in blossom
One of the many of Tokyo's parks, Shinjuku Chuo Park is a beautiful and serene oasis located in the bustling heart of Tokyo. It's a great place to escape the chaos of the city and enjoy some peace and tranquility.
The park is quite spacious, and is filled with a variety of trees, flowers, and greenery. There are several walking paths throughout the park, which are perfect for a leisurely stroll or a brisk jog. The paths are well-maintained and offer stunning views of the surrounding cityscape. It's a great place to relax and reflect. #tokyo

Ichiran Ramen
#celebratewithtrip
I went to this particular Ramen chain store at Shinjuku Kabukicho is can be access by JR Shinjuku station east gate exit .
I went during off peak timing and also need to wait almost 20 mins for a seat. The restaurant itself is small with about 20 seating.
The wait for the food is totally worth it as the Ramen is perfectly cook and taste wonderful. Noddles itself can be cook to your preference
Ichiran Ramen @ Shinjuku Tokyo
#meettokyo
One of my favourite ramen chains in Japan is Ichiran Ramen, and even though there are usually long queues, we always go to the branch in Shinjuku, Tokyo!
I love Ichiran Ramen because I like how I can customise the ramen noodles, the pork slices and even the toppings, as well as the soup base.
Servings are decent in terms of portions, and service is efficient. It makes for an affordable meal too. They also close pretty late at night, so it is an option for supper as well!
My rating?
I give it - 3.5 ⭐️ / 5!

The showcase was lined with gelato of various flavors, and it was a superb view 🥺

The coffee had an exquisite balance of aroma and sweetness and was insanely delicious ✨🤤

Shinjuku Gyo-en (新宿御苑) is a large park and garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a national park under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment.
On May 21, 1949, the garden became open to the public as a national park. It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001, with the official English name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden". A beautiful shrine. Busy but fascinating with traditional Shinto weddings taking place and other ritual displays. This avenue has been in many Japanese TV shows and movies for a good reason. It's beautiful when the leaves are all yellow. Go early in the morning. It is a calm retreat in a vibrant city close to Shinjuko center. Sit down and breath for a minute. Some cafes and restaurants in the park and a green house with exotic plants. This was one of the first places I visited in Tokyo and I think of it with quite a lot of nostalgia. It felt so foreign to me but really peaceful and 'Japanese' - it was exactly what I was looking for to start off my trip. Serene ambiance, perfect armony of nature and man made landscape. One of the places in such big city to find equilibrium. Beautifully clean and well kept and set my expectations for the rest of my travels.

Magic Kingdom Alice: Take you into the fairy tale world
Alice series There are 5 restaurants in Japan, all want to go, finally rounded the nightmare
Shinjuku this magic kingdom Alice Combine the psychedelic scenes and various interesting props in the story to restore the scenes in the fairy tale to the restaurant. For example, when I entered the door, I saw Alices blue and white dress. The little animals that Alice touched all the way, the hedgehogs and the squirrels all appeared in the display, and the playing cards of the Wizard of Oz, its super cute, just look at the display. The entrance is even more confusing.
Because we only have two people, we didnt go into a separate box. The separate box was arranged into a luxurious poker table, which is very fairytale (Figure 8)
/hh The most eye-catching thing is that the heart of the restaurant is very big and lovely. The whole store is mainly composed of pink, which is very suitable for dating couples.
When the clerk comes up, the clerk will give you a cup of blue aperitif. If you drink it, you may be able to shrink it~
Their home is not bad, the price is slightly more expensive, but this The decoration style can only be experienced in Japan, don't miss it!

Tokyo in the fall is the most beautiful season of the year. Originally, it was the route to enjoy the maple. I didn't expect to meet the most beautiful autumn colors here. Tokyo Ginkgo Avenue, two rows of ginkgo biloba, look at the top, full of trees with golden armor, layered ginkgo leaves, golden gingko in the sun Its more dazzling when you shine, and its beautiful.
Kabuki hotel Shinjuku
We booked a three-night stay in a Loft Suite. the amazing service to the spacious room to the expansive gym I am in love with this property.
The views from the room were breathtaking, and the thoughtful amenities provided were impressive—from toothbrushes and razors to slippers, robes, and even a high-quality speaker. The bathroom setup was luxurious, with a modern shower and toilet, and the shampoo and conditioner were a nice touch.
Loved it here! It’s a little way out of the centre - but very close to some fabulous restaurants! On our last day, the resident restaurant (Nari, which is Thai) earned a Michelin star!! We went to its bar and the cocktails were FANTASTIC, as was our bartender. The hotel lobby bar was nice but we thought Nari was better.
The room was very attractive, in modern Japanese style. The view from only halfway up the tower (in our corner room) was pretty amazing!!
The location is unbeatable, with great access to nearby food spots and vibrant clubs. Plus, the hotel’s basement club, Zero Tokyo, offers free entry for guests, which added an exciting nightlife element to the stay.
the hotel products were really nice, as was the coffee and tea in the lobby.
would go out of my way to stay here again.
