Yuan Jiagu's Former Residence in Shiping.

Yuan Jiagu's Former Residence is located at No. 22, South Zheng Street, Yilong Town, Shiping County. It was built in the ninth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1883). It faces east and covers an area of 695 mu, with a building area of 875.9 mu. The former residence consists of the main gate, the second gate, the third gate, the upper and lower rooms in the courtyard, the patio, the study, the kitchen, and the bungalow in the backyard. It is a typical representative of the wooden structure courtyard building in the Qing Dynasty. Yuan Jiagu (1872-1937), also known as Shuwu and Shupu, was a native of Shiping. In 1903, he ranked first in the special economic science examination and was the only top scholar in the history of Yunnan. He was awarded the title of Hanlin Academy by the Qing court and served as the Zhejiang Education Commissioner and Governor, and the Yunnan Salt Transport Envoy. After the 1911 Revolution, he returned to his hometown in Yunnan and served as a professor at Donglu University and Yunnan University. He was committed to academic and local history research, and his achievements were quite fruitful.
