Address - Dalhousie Obelisk, 1 Empress Place, Singapore 179555 Dalhousie Obelisk is a historically significant landmark in Singapore as it commemorates the visit of Lord James Andrew, the Marquis of Dalhousie and Governor-General of India. It was erected in February 1850 when Singapore was still ruled from Bengal, as part of the Straits Settlements. Designed by Government Surveyor John Turnbull Thomson, the Dalhousie Obelisk was built to remind merchants of the benefits of free trade. It is quite an impressive structure. A tip is to bring along an umbrella when you check this out as the sun can be quite hot when directly overheard the unsheltered area.
