Sofia Borisova Gradina: Running Past History Where the City Breathes

Trip Moment for Vasil Levski National Stadium shared by Explorer fhj88

There is another 1 Trip Moment about Vasil Levski National Stadium that can provide additional references for your trip
#worthitornot Borisova Gradina is Sofia’s answer to Central Park, but its jogging path from Vasil Levski Stadium to Ariana Lake offers a unique historical workout. I started my run at 7 am, paying 2 BGN (€1) for a coffee from a street vendor near the stadium—cash only, as many kiosks don’t take cards. The path follows the perimeter of the former royal hunting grounds. The first kilometer passes the massive Soviet-era Vasil Levski monument, which is impressive but stark against the morning light. Around the 2 km mark, you hit the Ariana Lake. In winter, it freezes for ice skating; in July, it’s surrounded by a lush rose garden. I paused to smell the Bulgarian roses—intensely fragrant—and watched elderly men feeding the carp. A common error is staying on the asphalt; veer onto the parallel dirt trail under the trees to save your knees. I continued past the open-air theatre to the "Eagles' Bridge" area. The entire loop is about 5 km and takes 45 minutes at a steady pace. There are free outdoor gyms along the way; I used the pull-up bars. One downside: the traffic noise from the boulevard is constant until you reach the lake’s far side. Is a city park "worth it" if it requires dodging traffic noise? For the roses and the history embedded in every bench, I’d argue yes. Do you prefer your urban parks to be completely isolated from the city hum, or do you like seeing the skyline peek through the trees?

Tips:
Arrive early or right before closing for shorter lines and dreamy light. If you want those city lights, hit the late hours! Don’t forget to book your ticket in advance via trip.com to skip waiting.

Getting Around:

here’s how to do New York like a local—the Central Park edition! 🌳🗽 The chill vibes inside the city’s iconic green space are next-level, whether you’re wandering solo, picnicking with friends, or catching impromptu musicians on a sunny afternoon.

Top Spot to Visit:
Central Park (New York, NY, United States)
Open daily: 6:00 AM–1:00 AM
No trip to NYC is complete without getting lost (in a good way) in Central Park. Start near the southeast entrance and stroll north—you’ll hit must-sees like Bethesda Terrace, the famous Bow Bridge, and Sheep Meadow. Each spot serves up amazing city-meets-nature moments for your stories and snaps.

Personal Tip: Centrally located hotels add serious ambiance to your trip—waking up just blocks from the park means easy morning walks and late-night strolls with skyline views. Don’t skip sunrise or sunset here; the atmosphere is pure magic. If you need to recharge, grab a coffee from a nearby cafe, then park your picnic blanket and just watch the city hum around you.

Getting Around: The subway (5th Ave/59th St or 72nd St stations) drops you minutes from the park. Use city bikes or take a classic horse-drawn carriage for extra old-school charm.

Food Rec: Snack on a classic hot dog from street vendors near park entrances, or hit up the iconic Loeb Boathouse (by the lake) for something fancier.

Pro tips: The park is mostly free—just relax, people-watch, and soak in NYC energy. Best seasons are spring and fall!

Central Park in New York is iconic—and yes, absolutely as cool as the movies make it look 😎🌳. There’s so much to do here that you can fill a whole day, whether you’re biking, picnicking, or just people watching.

Must-See Spots in Central Park:
Bethesda Terrace & Fountain – The beating heart of the park! Take in views, snap some photos, and enjoy buskers doing their thing.
Bow Bridge – One of the prettiest places for a stroll or a selfie, especially near sunset.
The Mall – Lined with grand trees and artists selling their work. Instant vibes.
Strawberry Fields – A chill spot dedicated to John Lennon; fans leave flowers at the IMAGINE mosaic.
Sheep Meadow – Perfect for picnics, frisbee, or just laying back to watch clouds roll by.

🛏️ Room Amenities Tip: If your accommodation is close to Central Park, take advantage of lazy mornings by grabbing coffee to go and enjoy your breakfast in the park (it’s super chill and beats any hotel dining room).

Getting Around: Central Park is huge! Walking is great for short distances, but renting a bike will help you cover more ground without getting tired (bikes are available at various entrances or book ahead on trip.com). Maps are posted throughout to help you navigate.

Eats: Grab a classic New York hot dog from a vendor, or hit up Le Pain Quotidien (inside the park!) for pastries and strong coffee.

Good to Know: The park is open year-round, 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM, and safe during daylight—just keep your wits about you at night. Free public restrooms available.

2. Strawberry Fields – Peaceful tribute to John Lennon, right near West 72nd St. Quiet vibes, ideal for reflection.
3. The Loeb Boathouse – Grab a lakeside drink or rent a rowboat, especially on sunny afternoons. Open till late!
4. Great Lawn – Picnic or people-watch. Bring snacks and a blanket.
5. The Conservatory Garden – At 105th St and Fifth Ave, this hidden gem is super chill and less crowded.

nYC energy + chill green vibes = an epic day in Central Park 🌳🗽 Forget city noise, this oasis in the city is perfect for a reset or a bit of adventure!

Must-See Places in Central Park:
1. Bethesda Terrace & Fountain – This spot is iconic and super Instagrammable in any season. You can relax by the fountain and people-watch or snap those classic archway shots.
2. Bow Bridge – One of the park’s most famous bridges. Morning strolls here are next-level peaceful, but go early to avoid bigger crowds.
3. The Mall & Literary Walk – Majestic elms line this pathway; it’s dreamy for a slow walk or for catching street performers when it gets busy.
4. Belvedere Castle – Climb up for sweeping park and skyline views; it feels like a fairytale in the middle of Manhattan!

Practical Tips from my trip:
– The park is open 6:00 AM–1:00 AM, year-round, so you can definitely plan sunrise or late-night strolls.
– Bring your own snacks or drinks; the food carts are meh and pretty pricey. There are clean public restrooms near Bethesda Terrace.

– Download a detailed Central Park map ahead of time or use the trip.com app for live navigation.

Getting around: NYC’s subway drops you right on the park’s edge (get off at 59th St/Columbus Circle, 5th Ave, or 72nd St). Super easy.

Weather tip: Pack layers. Even in summer, shade under the trees can be cool!

just touched down in the city that never sleeps and went straight to the iconic Central Park — trust me, there’s nothing like those first vibes of green in the middle of Manhattan’s buzz 🗽🌳

Top Spot to Visit: Central Park
Address: Central Park, New York, NY, United States
Opening Hours: Daily, 6:00 AM–1:00 AM

Why it’s epic? Start your stroll at sunrise for a truly peaceful experience — you’ll share the paths with joggers, dog walkers, and locals grabbing those calm city moments before the day kicks off. Enter by the southeast corner for classic views of the Gapstow Bridge and city skyline, or head straight to Sheep Meadow to chill like a local on the grass.

Pro tip: If you’re aiming for those envy-inducing shots, the Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace are musts! There are loads of benches for people-watching or resting tired feet, and clusters of food carts so you can easily grab a coffee or a pretzel mid-walk.

Getting Around: Central Park is best explored on foot or by rental bike — just beware of the horse carriages (not the most efficient way to see everything). Use the City subway to reach the park: lines A, B, C, D, or 1 stop at 59th St/Columbus Circle for a quick entry.

Food: Bring your own picnic or grab a bagel at a local deli — eating outside with the city as your backdrop just hits different.

Key Tip: The park is open till 1:00 AM, but sunset onwards, stick to well-lit paths.

My personal hot tip: Don’t rush! The MoMA hotel-like ambiance is unexpectedly chill — take your time lounging in the airy galleries and soak up creative inspiration. If you’re a fan of a peaceful, stylish environment, you’ll love how the space feels more like a trendy hotel than a typical museum.

Wrap Up Essentials:
