The labyrinth of Villa Pisani is considered one of the most difficult in the whole world. Visitors can wander here for hours until, desperate, they start calling for help. According to legend, Napoleon Bonaparte himself managed to get lost here, arguing with one of his generals that he would solve the puzzle in an hour. In the center of this maze, a lucky traveler will find a unique tower of the XVIII century, from the roof of which the majestic Gorgon Medusa looks out at the surrounding space. The landscape art of the late Middle Ages created a fashion for noble gardens in the style of a labyrinth, which were created for many centuries. But Pisani's labyrinth has a slightly different story.… Legend has it that a rich doge and his wife once lived in this estate. They loved each other, did not know grief and troubles, but over the years the doge became seriously ill. One day, a strange monk came to see him, who, for a modest fee, offered him to stay with his beloved even after death. That's how the construction of the maze began. During the day, the best masters of Venice worked on the project, and in the evenings the monk conducted special rituals there: he read prayers and watered the ground with a solution made according to an ancient recipe. It was assumed that the soul of the owner of the villa was supposed to remain in the designated place, so when the doge was on his deathbed, he was transferred to the labyrinth, where he died. Most of the richly decorated interiors of the villa have retained their original appearance. The palace is included in the list of the 10 most beautiful palace and park complexes in Italy. Most of the rooms (now there are 168 of them — the layout was slightly changed in the XIX century) they are empty, but several rooms on the ground floor have retained the furniture of the XVII–XIX centuries. #trip #flowerlover #park #garden #italy
