Suifenhe, a small border town

Suifenhe has a long history, with ancestors of the Chinese nation thriving here as early as 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. It has been part of various dynasties, including the Tang, Jin, Ming, and Qing dynasties. In the 29th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1903), the town was established due to the opening of the Middle East Railway; it became a city in 1975; in 1992, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of border cities to be expanded and opened up. As a child, the ubiquitous presence of Russians infused the economic development of Suifenhe with vitality. However, after changes over time, it now appears to be in decline... Walking on the undulating slopes, the Russian signs and faces on the streets make one feel as if they are at the starting point of the Middle East Railway, experiencing the charm of a century of historical vicissitudes. Here, there are famous Russian-style buildings: the People's Head Building, the Japanese Consulate, the old site of the Soviet Consulate, the Suifenhe Museum, the Big White Building, the Railway Museum, and others.
