Ogijima: Cats and Cafes

Access to Ogijima, which floats about 1 km north of Megijima, takes about 40 minutes from Takamatsu Port via Megijima. This island, with little flat land, has settlements built in a stair-like fashion on the southwestern slopes, creating a unique landscape where houses overlap like scales from the port. It's best to explore the island on foot. As you walk through the beautiful stone steps and cobblestone alleys of Ogijima, you'll encounter colorful murals. The 'Ogijima Alley Mural Project' by Rikuji Makabe features silhouettes of landscapes painted on recycled materials collected on the island and installed on the exterior walls of houses, blending seamlessly into the island's scenery. When it comes to the island's specialties, it's definitely 'octopus'! At inns run by octopus pot fishermen, you can enjoy various octopus dishes such as octopus rice, octopus tempura, and okonomiyaki.
