Exploring the Market at The Rocks

#100waysoftravel OK, here’s the thing about me. I’m not big on all kinds of trinkets and clutter, but I love collecting a piece of local art everywhere we travel. I have beautiful paintings from Vietnam, a gorgeous little dragon sculpture from Taiwan, a wood carving from Spain and tiles from Portugal. So every time we go somewhere, I’m always on the lookout for a new place to find some local art and get to know the local artist. It’s so much more fun to buy art when you can have a conversation with the artist and inform a little bit of a connection. on our last day in Sydney we spent the morning exploring The Rocks near Circular Quay in Sydney Australia. Every Saturday they hold this lovely little flea market/art market where you can wander around and buy local goods. We especially enjoyed breakfast at a nearby café, eating the most delicious meat pies, and pastries ever and having a flat white! while wandering around I bought some beautiful local art and we tried some fantastic hot sauce made by a wonderful woman who had us laughing while our tongues burned from tasting her hot sauce! When I first saw the forecast for the morning, we were set to go, I was a little worried about the rain, but in the end it made the day all the more magical, and I took some wonderful pictures of the beautiful historic buildings in the area. Definitely recommend exploring the rocks on any day, but especially if you’re able to come on a Saturday morning and experience this charming little market. Grab a coffee and take a stroll while you enjoy the views and grab a few souvenirs. There were both art vendors set up at the market and little galleries along the side street, if you’re like me and are always looking for a special piece of art or souvenir to take home this is definitely the place to go while you’re in Sydney.
