Taizhou's ninth stop: the "Poetry Waterfall" of Tiantai Mountain.

Tiantai Mountain Waterfall, historically known as Tongbai Waterfall, is also called Sanjing Waterfall. The waterfall has a drop of 325 meters and a width of 90 meters. It is a rare high-drop, water-friendly, tiered waterfall group, known as the highest waterfall in China. For over a thousand years, literati such as Sun Chuo, Wang Xizhi, Li Bai, Lu You, and Xu Xiake have come here, leaving behind many poems, songs, travelogues, cliff carvings, and inscriptions, making it a "Poetry Waterfall." The waterfall is divided into nine levels, like a three-dimensional painting (Nine Waterfalls: Yusuo Feiliu; Seven and Eight Waterfalls: Yougu Diepu, Six Waterfalls: Xuanpu Fenglei; Five Waterfalls: Langyuan Xianpa, Four Waterfalls: Qun Jiao Zheng He; One, Two, and Three Waterfalls: Longyou Sanjing). In 1958, to meet the needs of agricultural production and people's lives, the county committee and government decided to build the Tongbai Reservoir. Two years later, the Tongbai Hydropower Station was completed, and the waterfall stopped flowing. The Tongbai Palace, the ancestral temple of the Southern Taoist Sect, was submerged under the reservoir. In 2013, the county committee and government decided to restore the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall, making it a high-drop, water-friendly, tiered waterfall group with stable, adjustable flow throughout the year. In 2016, the county committee and government designated the waterfall as the core scenic area of Tiantai Mountain tourism. The waterfall pumps water at night and releases it during the day.
