[Fall Foliage] Nanhuang Ancient Trail, a great place to enjoy fall foliage.

The Nanhuang Ancient Trail connects Nanping Township in Tiantai and Huangtan Village in Linhai. It is also known as the Huangnan Ancient Trail and was the most important road from the Tiantai Mountains to Taizhou Prefecture. 🔹The hiking route can be a loop or a through route. It is recommended to start at Nanping Township and take the main route. Nanping has several scenic spots, complete infrastructure, and convenient dining and accommodation options. 1. Loop: 11.5 km, 650 m elevation gain, two peaks. It is more convenient to park your car in Nanping and return to Nanping after a loop. The uphill path is all steps, and the downhill path has some dirt roads. You can bring a mask to avoid the dust. 2. Through route: 8 km, 450 m elevation gain, one peak. All the scenic spots are included, and the entire route is basically part of the loop. The through route ends at Huangtan Village, the end of the Nanhuang Ancient Trail, where you can visit the quaint village. 🍁Check-in Points 1. Sweetgum trees. From mid-November to early December, many sweetgum trees have not yet shed their leaves. This year, the trees on the Nanhuang Ancient Trail shed their leaves earlier, and some have already fallen. The fallen leaves on the ground create a great atmosphere. 🍂 The path up the mountain to Jigong Temple is lined with sweetgum trees. The most famous photo spot (photo 1) is marked, so just keep an eye out for it. 2. Terraces. After crossing the peak and going downhill, there is an observation deck. It is recommended to go early because the downhill direction is backlit in the afternoon, making photos taken with a camera blurry. Aerial photos taken with a drone are still quite spectacular, capturing the winding mountain road and terraces. 3. Silvergrass. In the last 2 km of the downhill path, there is a large area of silvergrass, which is a pleasant surprise. It is unexpectedly comfortable to lie on the golden silvergrass and bask in the warm winter sun. The photos taken here are also very beautiful, with a warm-toned atmosphere. 4. Temples of various beliefs. Linhai was the prefectural city of ancient Taizhou and is truly "by the sea." Folk beliefs are very popular in coastal areas. Along the way, there are six or seven strange and dilapidated small temples dedicated to Guanyin, Jigong, the God of Wealth, ancestors, Buddha, etc., which is a highlight. 🔹Nearby Recommendations There are many ancient cities, delicacies, and natural landscapes to explore nearby, such as Tiantai Mountain, Guoqing Temple, Linhai Ancient City, Shenxianju, and Kuocang Mountain. It is recommended to stay overnight in Linhai and Tiantai. You can also visit the Chaliao Ancient Trail to continue enjoying the maple leaves.
