Blessings at Ueno Toshogu Shrine

Toshogu Shrine is a Shinto shrine that was built in 1627 and serves as a true representation of Edo period architecture. It is located within Ueno Park and the entrance is just beside Ueno Zoo, though the actual shrine is a little deeper inside. Visiting the golden shrine and the surrounding area is free, though there is a minimal charge for conservation efforts should you wish to go closer into the shrine’s compounds, or check out the peony garden. Note that the shrine’s main hall is always out of bounds to visitors. Visitors come to pray for a variety of blessings, ranging from good fortune to happiness and longevity.
