Ushiku Chateau

#2024wish Ushiku Chateau is a nice place to unwind. The Chateau was recognised in 2008 as a National Important Cultural Property. About a 50 minute ride on the Joban line from Ueno/Nippori stations to Ushiku station. It is an 8 minute walk from the station. Denbe Kamiya, the winery's original owner, was miraculously healed from an incurable ailment after drinking wine given to him by a French acquaintance. After that Denbe Kamiya wanted to bring wine production to Japan. His adopted son Denzo helped Denbe Kamiya realise his dreams by spending a couple of years in Bordeaux where he honed his skills on the art and science of wine making. After Denzo's return to Japan they built the winery and chateau in 1903. Since then the Kamiya family has had a flourishing business in Japan. Apart from making wine, they brew world class beers, distill whiskeys, liqueurs and also import wines from all over the world. You can purchase their products on site and also online. There is a restaurant too but unfortunately it was booked for a private party. Furthermore, by the end of this year they will be closing down the restaurants, barbecue garden, souvenir shops, winery and brewery. So, you can only stroll around the gardens and museums. So, better hurry and visit this place. Cheers !
