Located in Hanyang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, on the Yugongji of the eastern foot of Guishan Mountain on the north bank of the Yangtze River, it is adjacent to the Han River in the north and the Yangtze River in the east, facing the Yellow Crane Tower across the river, complementing each other. It was first built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty by Fan Zhizhen, the prefect of Hanyang, when he was repairing the Xue Yujie Palace (Yuwang Temple), and was rebuilt in 1984. It was named after the verse 'The clear river reflects the trees of Hanyang, and the lush grass covers Parrot Island' by the Tang Dynasty poet Cui Hao. It is known as one of the 'Three Great Scenic Spots of Chu', and along with the Yellow Crane Tower and the Ancient Lute Platform, it is known as one of the 'Three Famous Attractions of Wuhan', and is reputed as the 'First Tower of Chutian'.
