The former site of the Hankou British Electric Company is located on Tianjin Road in Hankou, Wuhan. It is a Renaissance-style building designed by the Jingming Foreign Firm and constructed by the Hanxie Sheng Construction Factory. The Hankou British Electric Company was established in 1906 and was funded by British fur merchants. It began supplying electricity to the British, Russian, and French concessions from September to October of the same year. Initially, three small DC generators were installed with a total capacity of 125 kW. Over time, the company continued to add generators and update equipment, eventually becoming one of the largest DC power plants in the country at the time. During the Anti-Japanese War, due to the outbreak of the Pacific War, the company was controlled by the Japanese army and was forced to close. After the war, it was taken over by the Jiji Hydropower Company and gradually faded out of power operations. In 2012, the State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co., Ltd. followed the principle of "repairing the old as the old" and transformed the original "Hankou British Electric Company" site into the Hubei Electric Power Museum, which officially opened to the public for free on July 1, 2014. The former site of the Hankou British Electric Company is not only a cultural relic protection unit in Hubei Province, but also a national key cultural relic protection unit.
