Wuhan Must-Visit | A Short Trip to Pray for Blessings: Counting Arhats in Hanyang.

Guiyuan Temple is located on Guiyuan Temple Road, Hanyang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It was built in the 15th year of the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1658). Guiyuan Temple belongs to the Caodong School, one of the five schools and seven sects of Zen Buddhism, hence the name Guiyuan Temple. It is also known for its towering ancient trees and lush flowers and plants. Together with Baotong Temple, Lianxi Temple, and Gude Temple, it is known as one of the four major temples in Wuhan. 🙏 Counting Arhats 1. Men count on the left and women count on the right. Enter the Arhat Hall and count according to your actual age. Men start counting from the left, and women start counting from the right. 2. Start counting from the Arhat you feel most connected to. 3. After counting, remember the number of the Arhat you counted, and buy your number card at the exit. You can pay to have your fortune interpreted on the spot. ✍️ Copying Sutras Exit from Gate 3 of the Arhat Hall, and you will see a public toilet. The sutra copying area is next to the toilet. You can choose your favorite text and find a place to sit and copy it. It takes about 1.5 hours to copy a sutra and a Buddha statue. While copying, a cute little dog runs around, which is very healing. The volunteer aunties are very gentle and helped me roll up the copied sutra so I could take it home to copy. 🍚 Vegetarian Meal After copying the sutra, walk straight ahead to the vegetarian meal area. Lunch starts around 11:00 am. They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but the vegetarian meal here is free. Be sure to take only as much as you can eat and don't waste any food. Practical Information 🎫 Ticket: Adult ticket CNY 10/person ⏱️️ Opening Hours: 08:30–17:00, ticket sales stop at 16:30 🚇 Transportation: Take Metro Line 4/6 to Zhongjiacun Station, Exit D, and walk 500 meters west along Cuiwei Road. 🪭 Nearby Attractions: Guqin Terrace, Guishan Mountain, Qingchuan Pavilion, and Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge are all near Hanyang. You can walk or ride a shared bike to visit them.
